Stopped here for lunch. Soup and sandwich was reasonably priced although the sandwich was very basic. However the macaroni cheese at £10.95 was over priced, tasteless and full of fat. This dish did include wedges which were hot but tasteless. Service was prompt and friendly. The bar area was pleasant but the rest of the hotle could benefit from refurbishment.

We found the room a bit of a hike to the top room, but I will point out we we walking The St Cuthberts way, with Packs, ha ha so top floor was good training. Had a lot to do on net, would have liked net in room. but mind you I made a mistake on password, so that did... More

Four night stay here whilst visiting the small town of Melrose. Warm welcome from staff on arrival, decor is a bit mismatched, modern but with old, dated carpets that could do with replacing. Rooms are ok, clean bed sheets and towels. Breakfast was simple and a few choices. I noticed a comment from another traveller about the teabags, I also... More

The welcome here was very friendly as were all of the staff that I came into contact with. The staircase and landing carpets look tired but my bedroom, room 2, was fine and the bathroom was very modern but basic. I really loved the fact that there were no advertising items, signs, can and can't do notes anywhere in the... More

We stayed here for three nights for a walking weekend in the Borders. This hotel was perfect as it was 'cheap and cheerful', and as others have said, clean, comfy, and warm. We had no real problems at all, but if worried about possible noise from bar and function suite, I'd advise the top floor rooms (if you can manage... More

A very friendly hotel on the main street in Melrose. Very handy for shops & restaurants. Rooms comfortable & very clean - loads of hot water for a quick bath (or 2 ) every day. Great breakfasts ( although no fresh tea - only hot water flasks). Sadly no residents' sitting room which meant we had to sit in a... More

The Kings Arms is a clean basic hotel in a great location for Melrose Abbey and starting St Cuthberts Way. The beds were comfortable and a mix up over twins v double was soon resolved by the friendly and helpful staff. Food was good, really good cooked breakfast served by cheerful chef. The rooms are a bit tired but clean... More

We decided to stay overnight in Melrose on the return from Edinburgh. After enquiring at other hotels this was the most economical for an overnighter. The receptionist was very welcoming and friendly and showed us our room on the 3rd floor. The room was dated but clean and the beds very comfortable. Although the radiator was on, the room stayed... We stopped in this hotel for lunch before visiting Melrose Abbey. The fireplace warmed us up nicely. The food was very tasty, if basic, just the sandwiches were pretty dry. Also the waitress was not really present when we wanted to pay or order more drinks. But very friendly!

We stayed here overnight while my husband was at a reunion party elsewhere in Melrose. We had the 4 person family room. The room was spacious, warm and the beds declared as super comfy by our daughters. One downside is the fact that the room is right beside the WC's for the bar/restaurant so we heard the hand drier quite... More
