We found Burts, easy to find, very friendly and helpful. The staff were willing to put themselves out to help us in any way they could. The food was excellent and the service good. It has the best selection of whiskey's I've come across. It maybe a little old fashioned in style, but thats part of what makes is so much... more

My partner and I recently stayed Sunday and Monday nights in Burts Hotel at ₤131 per night B&B for a double room. We live about a hundred miles north of Melrose and were taking a couple of days autumn break to cycle in this lovely area which we know quite well. We felt the B&B rate was pricey. We ate... more

As a family we have been going to Burts for about 25 years & always stay about 4 nights in the old days we used to stay on Dinner Bed & Breakfast rates but as we have all got older the meals in the Restaurant became too much so we use the Bar for evening meals. I cannot believe some... more

Other reviews noted. Melrose is with Kelso the smartest of Border towns but do not expect nightlife. This is a very comfortable small town hotel if a little pricy. I can speak only of restaurant food which is excellent if perhaps not a bargain.Beer and wine good. if, and I hope when you go remember that you are in the... more

We had the pleasure of staying one night in this lovely friendly hotel. It was obvious that it is being run by a family who are relaxed and professional. Standard was fantastic in every way, the restaurant was a delight and the food superb. Unfortunately we could only stay for just one night but it is somewhere we will return... more

Loved the location of this charming hotel right on High Street in Melrose and just around the corner from the Abbey. The food was delicious in the bar area. We found the staff to be helpful when asked for recommendations or additional items for the room. We had the room on the top floor - the bathroom window was overlooking... more

We spent two nights here in early July with friends, the first time we have ever stayed, though it has been a lunch date for many years. It is a lovely hotel, with a good setting on the High Street. We ate in both the bar (excellent - very busy and atmospheric) and in the restaurant. I felt the restaurant... more

Excellent staff, great food including breakfast. Only the rooms need some TLC and modernising. - Then for the money I would give it top marks. more

During a recent stay in Melrose I had the misfortune to be booked in for a meal at Burts hotel. I had had an adequate meal in the bar restaurant there some months previously. On arrival I discovered that we had been accidentally booked in to the restaurant instead. The set menu of £33 a head was too expensive for... more

Revisiting a Hotel is probably not a good idea, but we did. We said no to their very pricey restaurant and ended up squashed at a 'two-table' in the bar. There were other tables free, but were not offered to us. We chose our food and waited........When it came my steak was delicious and well presented. My wife's plate of... more
