We arrived as a party of five people at 2.05pm on a drizzly November Monday. Lunch we were told had stopped being served 5 minutes earlier. It seems it was not possible to extend their lunchtime to accommodate our needs. So we slimmed down our request to 'soup and sandwiches'. Still not possible. What sort of delivery of Scottish hospitality... More

This was our first dining experience in Scotland when we moved to the Borders nearly 40 years ago. We revisit from time to time. Nostalgic you think - but this place has an extraordinary bar menu. A few days ago I had a lovely chorizo and sea bream risotto. The scampi in a basket of 1970s fame, we presume, had... More

Having seen the reports in the local news papers we decided to go for lunch, We were met by a lovely girl who showed us to our table took our drinks order and then came for our food order. We decided to have the beer battered haddock with wedges and lovely it was the batter was crisp to the last... More

Had booked a twin room for our first stay in Scotland. My traveling companion was delayed 24 hours in the U.S., so I ventured to Melrose alone. We had foolishly decided to depend on her iTouch for contact & passed up cell phones, so our only contact point was Burt's email address & phone. The Hendersons graciously conveyed messages for... Had two dinners at the Hotel - one Bar meal and one in the Restaurant. Both excellent and both with superb service. An old fashioned atmosphere which suited us - Comfortable yet not formal and prices reasonable. We spent our 35th wedding anniversary in the Restaurant….Only downside was a table of loud male English tourists clearly staying at the Hotel... More

Enjoyed risotto while Mrs & Jnr had the stunning Roast Beef lunch. Friendly warm surroundings and the highest quality of food. Malt of the month was rather good too! The rare roast beef salad or ham salad is well worth trying too.

We stayed here for three nights on our way back from the Highlands and couldn't have been more pleased with our choice. Our room, at the front of the hotel was surprisingly quiet, very clean, spacious and well decorated and had a hospitality tray with tea, coffee, water and shortbread biscuits, all replenished daily. Good wi-fi connection too. We had... More

Our neighbours use the Caravan Club site on a regular basis, and eat here regularly, and suggested that we might join them one evening, as we stay here overnight. We telephoned to book, and were offered the last room, which the receptionist said "we can make it into a double" We expected a cupboard, far from it, it was a... More
