Stayed with a couple of pals for a night prior to a days fishing on The Tweed. Phillip the owner made us very welcome and his colleagues Darren & Lorna looked after us very well. There's a nice bar with local beers; fod was very good; fat juicy ham steaks andd scampi and a magnificent breakfast. Nice rooms All at... More

It was only an overnight stay for me and at £40 i wasn't expecting much. The room was pretty much bog standard, but was clean and comfortable and so was the toilet. Let down by an awful breakfast though!

The menu was very small and basic for a sunday afternoon.... 7 people went for this meal and 2 people had their starter around 5 mins before the rest of our starters came. When they did come the food was cold. The main again was cold and the amount of portions of veg that we were to share were small... More

This place this looks dated from the outside as well as the inside and is vastly overpriced! The tv in our room barely worked and the shower did not work at all despite complaints to reception!!! Breakfast was not bad but did not make up for a terrible nights sleep on an uncomfy matteress.

The hotel looks dated from the outside so what people expect from the inside rather surprises me. Room very clean and warm once i put the heat on. Good shower, large fluffy towels .excellent nights sleep. Complemented the chef for cooking the most perfect breakfast. Very good for the price i paid.

Thank you for your comments. The hotel is in principal 450 years old with the newest aprt of the structure completed 132 years ago in 1879. Given we are a Grade B listed Historic Building in a conservation town we will never look like a modern purpose built hotel. However we do try and look after the fabric of the... More

Oh Dear, what a shame. Arrived to no heating on in the room, outside temperature 8 degrees. Very poor lighting throughout the hotel. Worst of all no hot water at 7.30 am- atrocious. Friendly staff and a nicely set out breakfast buffet couldn't redeem this place.

We used this hotel as our base for the Edinburgh Tattoo for three nights. It is situated in the lovely town of Melrose, which has a lot going for it. Whilst the hotel could do with some refurbishment work it did not detract from our stay. The service was very good and the food exceptional. Plenty of choice at breakfast... More

Thank you for your comments and I am pleased you enjoyed your stay and I hope also enjoyed your visit to the Edinburgh Tattoo. As a privately owned hotel we do what we can when we can subject to an ever changing set of priorities in maintaining the building. More
