Felt I had to put my experience of this hotel down. I was part of a group of cyclists riding from Scarborough to Edinburgh. We arrived and we greeted by friendly staff. Enjoyed an excellent pint in the bar. We had a terrific meal in the evening. In fact probably the best of the trip and would recommend the food.... more

Having stayed at this hotel and read the reviews I am convinced this is a hotel of two halves. The good points were the location in the centre of Melrose and the friendliness of the staff. Breakfast could be good or bad depending on your choice. The bacon was poor, the toaster didn't work properly but the cold breakfast was... more

I stayed here for a Friday and Saturday night. The hotel has great, easy parking round the back and from check in to check out all the staff were friendly and helpful throughout. They made my stay. My room looked onto the front high street but was quiet, comfy and warm. The room was lovely furnished, old heavy traditional furniture... more

My sister, myself and daughter stayed at this hotel. We had a triple room which we paid £100 for 1 nights stay. We were quite shocked to discover the room was very basic and the bathroom had no curtain up on the window. There was mould around the window and bath. We also had the most awful night sleep you... more

This hotel leaves a lot to be desired. The room was last decorated, I would say, sometimes before the 70s. The bed was just as old as the decor and I felt every single spring all night long. The base of the bed seem to be a box, so it was also very hard. The bathroom had mould in the... more

I booked one night at the G&A, as I was travelling up from Liverpool for a concert at the Wynd Theatre. Upon arrival, I found the check-in a simple, pleasant and painless process. I went to my room, which was of adequate size. Alas, someone had ignored the management's request not to smoke in the room, but at least the... more

I held my wedding reception at the George and Abbotsford and me and my husband couldn't have had a better day. The food was out of this world and the staff couldn't have been any more helpful. Nothing was to much trouble. Anything we wanted they did and they made us and my friends and family feel so welcome. Everybody... more

I think the title says it all I'm afraid. My partner booked this hotel as part of a surprise weekend break and surprised we were! The decor of the hotel was straight out of the 1970s, which was obviously the last time the matress in our room had been renewed. The Sunday of our weekend away was ruined as we... more

I took my mother for the night as part of her 70th birthday celebrations. Staff great, rooms were clean and toasting hot, a friendly hotel. Location ideal just step out to the shops. Breakfast with choices instead of just the usual full english eg. poached haddock choices of fruit and pipping hot when served. Will definately go again. No where... more

We booked for 3 nights (border break) which included 3 nights bed and breakfast and two evening meals. Our bedroom was really comfortable with a 4 poster bed, tv, tea and coffee and our own bathroom. Although the room was a little shabby, it did have character which we much prefered to those premier inn boxes. All the staff were... more
