I booked one night at the G&A, as I was travelling up from Liverpool for a concert at the Wynd Theatre. Upon arrival, I found the check-in a simple, pleasant and painless process. I went to my room, which was of adequate size. Alas, someone had ignored the management's request not to smoke in the room, but at least the... more

I held my wedding reception at the George and Abbotsford and me and my husband couldn't have had a better day. The food was out of this world and the staff couldn't have been any more helpful. Nothing was to much trouble. Anything we wanted they did and they made us and my friends and family feel so welcome. Everybody... more

I think the title says it all I'm afraid. My partner booked this hotel as part of a surprise weekend break and surprised we were! The decor of the hotel was straight out of the 1970s, which was obviously the last time the matress in our room had been renewed. The Sunday of our weekend away was ruined as we... more

I took my mother for the night as part of her 70th birthday celebrations. Staff great, rooms were clean and toasting hot, a friendly hotel. Location ideal just step out to the shops. Breakfast with choices instead of just the usual full english eg. poached haddock choices of fruit and pipping hot when served. Will definately go again. No where... more

We booked for 3 nights (border break) which included 3 nights bed and breakfast and two evening meals. Our bedroom was really comfortable with a 4 poster bed, tv, tea and coffee and our own bathroom. Although the room was a little shabby, it did have character which we much prefered to those premier inn boxes. All the staff were... more

This hotel may have looked and smelt acceptable in 1970 when it was last decorated (and cleaned) but it certainly does not now. It looks nothing like the brochure or the website and my tiny 'room' with rolling views over the bins and car park was dirty with shabby carpets, peeling wallpaper and flapping melamine veneer on the "furniture". The... more

Our room, like everything else advertised on this hotel’s website, bore no resemblance to reality. The bed in the 'double' room I shared at £85 per night would have been an adults' single in any other hotel. I could feel the springs in the mattress and so hardly slept at all. The bathroom was absolutely filthy. To top it all... more

Hotel staff are very the friendly. The atomosphere is relaxed and the rooms are spacious. Old-fashioned but a good choice of place to stay in Melrose as it is not as expensive as most of the hotels there. Beds were very comfortable and good breakfast. more

My friend and I stayed here for one night in 2 single rooms, as we had an appointment in Galashiels. The hotel was acceptable as far as accommodation goes at £45 per night B&B, but the breakfast scenario was diabolical. We sat at a table and were brought toast and tea. Then we waited.....and waited! No-one came to take our... more

We stayed 2 nights in order to attend a wedding in Jedburgh. The hotel was very much typical of its type - rather old-fashioned, with most of the carpets in need of a replacement. However, it was comfortable (although the bed was a bit hard and unpadded) and the meal (in the bar) was of a good standard. I'd recommend... more
