Booked a deal for a long weekend break and was delighted when we drove up the long drive through the lovely gardens. After a friendly welcome and easy check-in we were delighted to see a 4-poster bed in the very lovely room 2. Very good quality food and a lovely dining room. Like almost all independent hotels my wife and... More

We were immediately struck by the setting for this hotel, up a long, dog-leg drive, and looking out over Hawick. On arrival, we encountered at reception the friendly, helpful, genuine style of the local staff which was to make our stay a joy. The young lady on reception even insisted on carrying up the luggage for these two elederly, but... More

Great setting-up a long and winding driveway to a large mansion type house converted to a hotel. Very welcoming with very comfortable and relaxing lounge areas. Dining room is lovely with smashing views across a valley. Food in the restaurant was very good. Extensive breakfast menu and on this occasion cooked to order. Everywhere was clean and tidy. Rooms 8,9... More

Stayed hete for 2 nights. lovely staff but seemed very inexperiencef in how to run a hotel especially the dining room. Dinner was nice but chips were soggy and no offer of replacement. Breakfast was a shambles with people waiting 45 mins for food. Rooms had lovely view but were tired looking with some furniture broken and needing replaced. Needs... More

Last here 5 years ago, and the decor has been updated, and hotel looks far superior and very elegant now. First class view from Dining Room, and A La Carte Menu excellent, but nearly £24.00 for a fillet steak is pricey even for this establishment. Starter of Haddock Soufflé at nearly £6.00 was ok, but a tiny portion and it... More

Have stayed a couple of times now and have enjoyed each stay. Menu although not extensive has a good selection and mostly well cooked and tasty. Great breakfast menu though I can only reccomend the poached eggs (perfectly cooked). Plenty of parking and rooms are clean with lots of character. On both occasions the bar was very quiet but the... We have just spent the last three days at this hotel. The staff were very helpful, the rooms were very comfortable and spotlessly clean. The food was exceptionally good, we did not notice a Michelin star, but are sure it is pending. The décor is sumptuous, in keeping with the original building which was built in the 1870's. A wonderful... More

We have just returned from our first stay at the Mansfield House Hotel and found such high standards of cleanliness and service. We were welcomed at reception by Kirsty who went out her way to show us round the hotel and explain something of its history. All staff we came in contact with over the two days we stayed showed... We have stayed at the Mansfield House Hotel 4 times and wouldn't stay anywhere else in the Border region. Each stay has been wonderfully relaxing, very welcoming and the breakfast choice and quality is excellent. The hotel is very traditional but has a few modern touches which compliment it's overall feel. We can't wait for our next visit.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Mansfield House Hotel is situated in approximately 10 acres of established grounds on the outskirts of Hawick, the largest of the Border towns famous for the Common Riding, rugby and knitwear. The house was originally the private home of the Oliver family built in 1870. These entreprenneurs of the new industrial age tastefully influenced the many distinctive architectural features, from the thistle and rose ceilings in the lounge and reception areas, to the Russian pine shutters, skirtings and doors throughout the main house. ... more   less
