A pub/hotel in a quiet location but conveniently in the middle of town. Hotel is being refurbished so a bit shabby in parts -. but clean and comfy. Food is good, the evening meal was not 'fine dining' - but exceedingly good {a fine chef}, breakfast also very good. Bar was a friendly mix of locals and other people staying... More

I stayed at the Abbotsford Arms last week and I admit I was nervous having read some reviews. Reception to check in is in the bar area. I was greeted warmly and was taken upstairs and given the choice of 2 rooms. The stair carpet is not the best but I was informed that there is a new red one... More

The Abbotsford Arms seems to be suffering from a lack of investment and drive from the management - many reviews over the last 12 months have said that the hotel is undergoing refurbishment but I saw no progress and had the same "yes, we know that x, y & z need to be done but we haven't the time". They... More

I chose to stay in this hotel as I was visiting friends in Galashiels and wanted a bit of space rather than staying at their home. My first impression of the hotel from the outside were great, what a lovely building, old building but I quite like a place with a history. There is train works just opposite the hotel... More

We stayed in the hotel Friday and sat. Staff extremely pleasant and made sure our stay was just perfect. Food was amazing 5* quality. My favourite starter was haggis tower with a whiskey sauce so nice had it 2 nights in a row. Chicken sizzler first night amazing. 2nd night chefs special green tai chicken with noodles and this was... More

When we were shown to our room I almost turned round and left, but having been asked for payment when we registered it was going to be a problem. The room was over the front door of the hotel. Always a problem on a Saturday night. It was the shower that was nearly the thing which pushed us over the... More

We couldn't get into our preferred hotel in this area and had no choice but to book this hotel, in spite of other negative reviews, but we were not quite prepared for the total lack of basic amenities. We arrived with our wedding guest outfits in suit carriers, on hangers, but there was no wardrobe, no rail, no coat hooks,... More

A friend of ours, who is from Gala, was getting married. My husband and I along with another couple and their 2 kids stayed here for 2 nights. A well run family hotel which has a lovely, friendly atmosphere. Nothing was too much trouble, even though they had been working long, hard hours. Breakfast was included, which was cooked perfectly,... More
