We booked our stay as a result of a visit to the Ideal Home Exhibition at Earls Court, London in 2007. My friend and I both booked with a view to using this as a break for us and our respective husbands. For various reasons, my friend and her husband were unable to join us, so she used the 'transfer... more

We returned from The Portsonachan Hotel yesterday and I thought I should write a review whilst the feelings are still fresh. Where do I start? What a beautiful hotel in such stunning surroundings. This was our second visit and we were really looking forward to it and weren’t disappointed. The staff were absolutely fantastic, every one of them, and nothing... more

Lovely hotel in a lovely setting. We were only booked in for 1 night as we were travelling around scotland for a week, myself my daughter, my sister & my neice. We had booked a family room at the hotel £80 but when we arrived we were allocated the NESS apartment across the road which was simply stunning!!!! and very... more

We arrived at Portsonachan when it was dark and couldn't wait until day light to see the view - Our room was upgraded free of charge to a loch view. Woke up and the view was fantastic. The staff were very accomodating. I'm vegetarian and the menu didn't provide a great variety. My potential moan was met with, "what would... more

We spent three days at The Portsonachan Hotel on 14th Feb and stayed in one of the Lochside apartments. The Apartment was very clean and had everything we needed. The superb views over the Loch have to be seen to be believed. I had been to Scotland a number of times before but to be able to wake up and walk... more

What it does not say on the Portsonachan website is that the Main Road into "Portsonachan" and there is only the one! is directly between the Lodges and the Loch. ( Therefore the Lodges are NOT on the banks of Loch Awe. but 25 Yards away with a Road between them and it.) The Hotels website says "Fantastic View Over... more

I booked our family New Year over 18 months ago at a food show in Birmingham. The problems started a few weeks before we were due to arrive. We began having lots of phone calls asking us repeatedly if we would book in for meals during our stay. As the total for meals would be nearly £1000 for the 3... more

Management response from
PortsonachanLochAwe, Marketing Director

I am the Marketing Director for Portsonachan Hotel. I always read with interest the comments placed on trip advisor regarding Portsonachan Hotel. I would not normally comment, however when the comments are totally inaccurate, then I fell I should. The gentleman who wrote this report paid £228 for 3 nights Bed and Breakfast for a family room over New Year....

I booked this stay at the RHS show at Tatton in 2006, and sometime later read the reviews on this website - which were mixed, with some very negative. As the break was already paid for, we decided to go and see for ourselves. Loved it! The accommodation, food, staff and service were all first rate. The location is stunning,... more

Just got home from a four day (three night) break. Went there three years ago and the memories soon flooded back. If you are looking for peace and quiet wth wonderful scenery this is quite superb. Food was excellent (particularly breakfast) staff very warm and friendly and room cosy. Strongly recommend a loch view if you are staying in the... more
