The staff were friendly, but this hotel had allready seen better days. We booked by booking.com. Happy we arrived very early in the afternoon - the only hotel computer was broken since days, they didn't get the reservation. As we showed them our confirmation email, we got the very last free room, number 26. After passing several fire-doors and stairstep,... More

Although the staff were very friendly the hotel itself has seen better days. My single room was cramped, the chair had several deep stains and there was rust on the hand basin and metal framed table. The price was £40 bed and breakfast which is reasonable for Oban but I suspect I would have done better elsewhere in the town.... More

Stayed at the Lancaster last weekend, and while I agree it is a bit dated, could not find fault with it, apart from the fact that when we had breaklfast on the second day, it was a bit pushed for space between tables. We asked for a continental breakfast on the first morning, as we were going out early, and... More

Superb location, delightful staff. BUT .... I started out in room 24. Dreadful decor, especially the unfinished ceiling, and pink and yellow gloss isn't good on wallpaper. I wouldn't have used that horrid shower. The bed didn't flinch when I sat on it. Then the gurgling started and the overwhelming smell of chlorine made my throat and eyes hurt. The... More

My partner and I stayed overnight and we found the hotel to be a little dated but the staff and surrounding's and cleanliness of the hotel made up for it , we had breakfast which was fantastic and again the staff were very polite and certainly a credit to the management , we would certainly be staying again in the... The staff are lovely in this rather elderly hotel situated in a lovely position on the sea front with lovely views across the bay and not too far to walk into the centre. It is correct that it is a little dated but everything except the ancient TVs work quite well. I had a comfortable short stay there and if... More

We only stayed in the Lancaster for one night - never again. There are no redeeming features about this place. The room we stayed in was at the back of the hotel with a tiny window. It was full of old broken furniture, the bed mattresses we sagging antiques and wrapped in plastic under the sheets. There was no shower... More

Went there 12july 2014 for two nights. Web site looks fab. Don't let it fool you. Swimming pool not good. Had to use garden hose for shower before going into pool. GARDEN HOSE... Sorry not me.. No lights after 8pm, despite pool being I use till 9pm. You have to leave hotel and go outdoors to adjacent bar. Pouring rain.... More

A BIG lesson for me in staying here is to ALWAYS look on Tripadvisor before making any future bookings anywhere. Obviously had I read the reviews I would have saved myself the experience of such accommodation. So this is my first review having signed up to Tripadvisor. Like many reviewers, we ended up in the room above the boiler, read... More

Stayed in Lancaster on 17 & 18 June and never again. Hotel badly needs to be refurbished and modernized. Room was small and was a smoking room. Granted we were warned about this, before checking in, but after all we are now in a non-smoking environment. From morning of 18 June, there was an overpowering and very unpleasant smell outside...
