Very friendly hotel, they even provided a hot meal in the restaurant when we arrived very late on a wet Friday night. Andy the Chef, bar man, receptionist, night porter, breakfast waiter and comedian was the star of the weekend visit. The Hotel is typical of an old Highland Hotel, but was clean and tidy, the food was freshly made and... more

The Cuilfail Hotel is wonderfully located between the hills and you can reach the coast within 5 minutes by car. It is very quiet up there, a beautiful place to relax. The hotel itself is really old and you will believe the storys of Queen Victoria staying there. The rooms and the furniture could need a little mending but nevertheless... more

Not a great Hotel but not terrible either. Room was a bit shabby and the bathroom could really do with a clean. Nice building, public areas are OK. Food plain but acceptable. Breakfast room was a bit chilly. more

A beautiful building filled with welcoming staff. The rooms are freshly decorated with pristine bathrooms, beds are comfortable obviously tailored to fit the broader spectrum of prefferences. The food is filling which is nessessary concidering ones main activities is exploring the hills and various forms of lakes and seas. This can go hand in hand with fishing which personally i... more

I highly recommend the Cuilfail Hotel, it is brimming over with character inside and out. It is situated in peaceful surroundings with outstanding Scottish scenery all around. The staff are very friendly and extremely helpful and on my visits I have always enjoyed a genuine warm welcome. The rooms are spacious and quiet. The food is well cooked and well... more

I went with my husband to this hotel and we had a lovely stay. The room we stayed in had just been decorated and was charming and very Scottish. The staff we always happy to help us, and went out the their way to recommend places to visit and local beauty spots. The food was hearty, simple and good value... more

We booked this hotel after having seen its website. It looked good value. From the moment we stepped through the door we knew we had made a grave mistake. From the tacky plastic tablecloths in the dining room to the fact that we were offered a can of Tennant's when we asked for bottled lager, to the fact that the... more

Dear Sir I note your review on tripadvisor dated August 2006. Your visit was two and a half years earlier. We took over the hotel on Feb 2004 in a very poor condition. Since then we have done a lot - redecoration of rooms, hallways, toilets, gutted the dining room & kitchen, installed digital tv (tv reception in area is...

This was the most disappointing of the hotels and guesthouses we have just visited (5 in all with four couples so we saw a wide range of rooms). As mentioned in another review the showers were similar to those you expect in a caravan and ours was just a trickle. Apparently the plumber was supposed to have fixed the problem... more

We thought the Cuilfail was a lovely old building, although could do with a wee bit more sprucing up. It is a half hour drive from Oban - all roads from the hotel are scenic. The food was wonderful - but endorse the comment made by another reviewer that they could do with at least one real ale. The bar... more

Dear Sir Just a note to let you know we now do real ale during the season though rarely off season as there is not sufficient demand. Coutesy of the Isle of Mull Brewing Co Ltd (having tried through Tennents and Loch Fyne Ales) Regards Jack MacDonald Cuilfail Hotel

It was hard finding a nice place to stay with two young children, but the Cuilfail fit the bill. Wonderful owners, chef and setting. It is a long windy drive to Oban (a good half hour), and there is NOTHING but the hotel in the town- but all that is made up for in how lovely this place is. Beds... more
