This ancient, creaky, dirty place is really overpriced for what it offers. Never refurbished rooms, uncomfortable, hard beds, non-functioning shower and no breakfast included in the price (tip: go round the corner to the Wetherspoons bar on the harbour for a full breakfast for 2.99 instead of the 7 they want to charge in this awful dive). Check-in is in... More

This hotel needs refurbishing and repainting. Leaks in the restaurant room and untidy wall and floor finishes in common areas. A bit scary at first sight. However, we stayed there for a night in a family room, 2 adults 2 kids. The room was spacious and clean. Good wifi reception. So nothing to complain about. The breakfast was correct. Another... We stayed in Oban for a couple of nights last minute and, due to it being peak holiday time, we struggled to find much availability in the town. Having read some of the previous reviews for The Kelvin Hotel, we had mixed feelings about booking. Since it was about all we could get however, we went ahead and booked -... More

Iam writing this review more for other protenshal guests who might read this and save them doing the same mistake we did a month ago. Booked a double room for one night at the Kelvin Hotel and was handed a key for a attic room on the top floor. the frist thing that hit us was the damp smell coming... More

The hotel itself is in a great location, right beside the ferry. You can't hear the ferry when it comes also so noise was not an issue. The rooms were okay, we didn't mind them. Wifi was awful, if you need internet for something I would recommend staying somewhere else. There was a pub downstairs as well. The place seems... More

It was a last minute decision to stay in Oban because we wanted to take a tour of Mull, Iona and Staffa islands. So pretty much every hotel was already full. So we went to Kelvin Hotel. To check-in you have to talk to the guy at the bar next to the hotel. To check-out, there is nobody... I left... More

We spent a night at The Kelvin en route to points north. The location was ideal being close to downtown and the pier. The room was large, clean and comfortable. Staff were very helpful during check-in and informative about Oban and service offerings. The only disappointment was the 'full Scottish breakfast' which consisted of sausage, ham, beans and fried tomato.... More

We stayed 2 different times in 2 different rooms. The rooms are above a pub and the caretaker is friendly and helpful. The hotel is centrally located right on the docks of Oban. It's close to the train station and the ferry. We needed a triple room. The first night we got an upgrade to a large room 3 flights... More

As a member of a group of older bikers we stayed here 2 nights at the Kelvin Hotel at the end of an eventful trip. We found the staff to be very friendly and helpful and the hotels rooms, although basic, as expected from a budget hotel, were clean and warm. The bar area was excellent especially with the round... After reading a lot of the other reviews calling it 'grotty' and 'filthy' I have to disagree. We booked this hotel as my partner has been coming here for 10 years+. We got an email from the proprietor informing us we would be moved to another hotel for a couple of nights due to a over booking, they arranged to... More
