This lovely, fun, small hotel is definitely worth a stay. Everyone is so very nice and charming as is the place. It is situated where you stroll a block or less to the North Sea. There is a great bar/restaurant area and also a fine dining restaurant. The food is superb!!! Top notch!!! Highly recommended.

After a brilliant visit in November 2013 we decided to return to this quaint little fishing village and to the wonderful Anchor with hosts Gary and Jan and family. As traditional pubs go this is a little gem. Gary is a as passionate about his food as you will find and the overall service was slick and friendly. Just remember... More

Recently held a dinner for 22 people in the dining room to celebrate my husband's 65th birthday! Gary and Jan are the perfect hosts providing help and advice leading up to ocassion eg choosing menu, wine and layout of room. Our guests all enjoyed themselves praising both the food and the venue.

First a word of warning - booking ahead is strongly advised as the Anchor is deservedly popular! Johnshaven is certainly the prettiest fishing village that we found on the Angus coast so the Anchor has a head start in attracting visitors. Cottages and narrow lanes tumble down to the seafront and the harbour is surrounded by an encouraging array of... More

Location is great, just a little way from the sea/harbour, shame it has limited outdoor seating, but they cannot do much about that. The food and menu choice is first class, in fact too many choices!! of lovely fish / food, and certainly the food our party enjoyed could not be faulted in any way, from Haggis bites - Sole... More

Were out house hunting and thought we would try here again after a disappointing first visit. We found the food very average. I had the chantrelle starter which was very greasy and the wilted rocket and spinach was unappetising The toilets were in need new flooring as the vinyl flooring was repaired with black adhesive tapes and the toilet seats... Thoroughly enjoyed a meal at the Anchor while visiting family who were camping in Johnshaven. The hotel/pub's location just off the harbour affords visitors a pre-dinner vista over the North Sea and allows them to provide incredibly fresh seafood for those who are so inclined. We ate in the bar area but they do have a fine-r dining area upstairs... More

The Anchor Hotel is a wee gem for those who want to get away from it all but still be in the heart of the tourism jewel that is Angus. The friendly, family-run hotel boasts quaint and well appointed bedrooms, beautifully decorated (we stayed in an en-suite family room, with a double bed and adjoining room with two single beds... We stayed here last weekend, the food was excellent and the staff very friendly. The width of the double room is exactly what you see in the photos, bed and two cabinets and the same small space at the bottom of the bed. No wardrobe, just a small rail with 4 hangers. Don't take a large case, little room between... More
