Having maternal family hailing from Aberdeen I have been a frequent visitor to the City over the past 60 years. How sad that I had never ever visited Johnshaven, or even heard of it!! Sadder still that The Anchor Hotel had never been on our radar Visiting with my 91 year old aunt, cousin so, my wife and the dogs,... More

I had dinner here last night. This is seafood at its freshest and very best. The shellfish stew was amazing, lobster tail, prawns, squid, mussels et al in a rich spicy tomato sauce with basmati rice and at £17.50 a real bargain! A whole lobster with chunky chips and rocket salad is £29.50. I understand it's landed in the harbour... More

Visited today. Ordered our meals and were famished by the time they came a good 35 minutes later. The food was lovely I have to say, however, when it was time to pay, I stood at the bar after receiving the bill at the table so I could settle up. Their till was not functioning correctly and they had to... More

We stayed the night at this lovely little hotel in the beautiful town of Johnshaven. The staff were down to earth and friendly and managed to resolve an issue we had through booking with LateRooms.com in no time at all. The room was clean, bright and comfortable. We did some drinking and strolling and enjoyed a lovely meal in the... More

Have eaten 3 times now and the food is of a good standard. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Fish and seafood are prominent on the menus, which is understandable for a fishing village. The food we had was well presented and tasted very good on the whole. There is a nice atmosphere and the will fit you in at... More

Had dinner with my daughter last week. I went for sea bass with lime, garlic and ginger butter......superb! My daughter had prawns in a tomato and chilli sauce....also superb! Unfortunately we were only in the area one night otherwise we would definitely have returned for another meal. Can thoroughly recommend.

Popped into the hotel just for lunch. We ordered what we thought would be a light meal - be warned the Anchor platter is big enough for 2 people! But we shouldn't complain about generous portions :-). Service was fast and friendly and the meal arrived within 10 minutes. The ingredients were fresh and delicious. The hotel does a wide... More

We booked our room (room 3) as a 'double', but in reality we would classify it as a single with a (large) double bed shoehorned in. There was almost no room to place our luggage without tripping over it, and not even room for a chair. The hand basin was the tiniest I have ever seen but just about sufficient... More

We booked into this hotel online the night before our stay. We were making a whistle stop visit to the area. We could not fault the hotel. We were welcomed warmly and showed to our room which although quite small was clean and comfortable. There was a TV and tea and coffee making facilities and am en suite shower room.... More
