Upon arrival we were welcomed with a friendly young lady at reception. We were taken to our rooms and pleasantly surprised as we read the comments below before departure! The rooms that we stayed in were 'Old' fashioned, and probably could do with an upgrade but what else would you expect from a small town hotel, they were clean and... more

The Royal was an old unloved town centre hotel but it was not altogether a basket case our bedroom small and outdated by modern standards was nevertheless clean and had nice bedlinen and towels the beds were smallish but comfortable. the food was OK dinner was not to rave about but acceptable and the breakfast was not too bad. the... more

After a long drive we decided to coincidentally stop in Forfar and drove to the first hotel on our Sat Nav. We have never seen such a dreadful hotel in our lives travelling around Europe. The rooms were damp and smelt of swimming pool chlorine and the 70's wallpaper was even peeling off. The mattresses were as crooked as a... more

The photograph of the room seen here is fake. The rooms are disgusting and damp with mildew. The ceilings are falling apart with electrical wiring hanging out. The beds are childrens size and appear to have been recovered from a scrap yard (The mattreses are as flat as the pyrenees). The level of humidity and sharp smell of chlorine makes... more

This hotel should be closed down on Health and Safety grounds alone. The windows in the room were all locked and signs on them saying not to open them. When I checked the fire safety instructions the boxes giving the details of where to assemble and where to set off the alarm were not filled in. There was no phone... more

I completley agree with the review below if you want the upmarket hotels then that's where you go. I could not fault the hotel or it's staff in anyway, everyone went out of there way to make ourstay really comfortable. Rooms and public areas very clean, could do with some decorating but adds to the charm of this country style... more

This really is a terrible hotel with dowdy bedrooms decorated like the 1970s, fusty bathrooms and sloppy staff. A nearby dog also keeps you awake all night long. £5 a night would be too much to pay. more

My husband and I spent the night here as we were going to a wedding nearby. Although, at £75 B&B, it wasn't overly expensive, the standards were well below an acceptable level. The place doesn't appear to have been decorated since the Bay City Rollers were in the charts, and I have some doubts about how long it is since... more
