Great place great character, well looked after. With 2 kids under 12 sand dunes, lighthouse and shipwrecks and a wee bit of imagination it was simply marevelous. All voting to come back soon in 2010. more

We stayed two nights here and loved it. It is a peaceful place near an amazing beach with huge sand dunes and a lighthouse. The owners are friendly and helpful and the facilities are clean and new. We will definitely come here again. more

Here for one night to celebrate birthday with my partner and our wee dog. Nice welcome from owner with a dog bed and biscuit waiting for our dog in the bedroom. Sure the place is being renovated but the room was warm and comfy and the social areas were good for chatting with other guests. Fantastic walks in the sand... more

This Hostel is a real escape from the business of life. Very much off the beaten track and with so much character. It was so interesting to stay in the old light-house station which has a quirky institutional feel, and the facilities were more than comfortable. The fact we could bring my friends dog was wonderful and he received star... more

You defenetly need a car to get there, but if you have one and need accomodation in that area - go there!! I strictly recomend it!! Especially for people who are happy to have a nice and tidy bunk bed room, clean bathrooms and cosy kitchens in an old, but renovated former house of the lighthouse watchers. One can still... more

We were two couples travelling all over Scotland and decided o stay here for one night. Although we got lost to get to the place the owners really helped us! Hostel was really clean and peacefull. Landscape is wonderfull (what a pitty we only stayed for one night!) I'd really recommend this place for some rest days. We could see... more

We had a fabulous two-night stay at Rattray Head - helped by beautiful sunny weather. My husband and I loved walking the beaches and our kids had a great time running up and down the very high sand dunes. The owners are friendly, the rooms are spacious, kitchen and living room comfortable, and it feels like you are miles from... more

Rattray head is a nice hostel at a really great location. The owners welcomed us very friendly, and rooms and facilities are clean. But the best really is the location: only 5 minutes walk to a fantastic beach! more

Although the owners are very friendly, the place was below the usual standard for a Hostel. I arrived to a warm welcome, however the bedroom, bathroom and kitchen/sitting area could have done with clean and a lick of paint wouldn't have gone a miss. The bedroom was not lockable from the rest of the guests, I think this is unacceptable.... more

Management response from

Thank you, we do take great care to welcome all our guests so that they feel at home as soon as they arrive. It is surprising that our standard seemed below average, as only 12 days earlier Visit Scotland had upgraded our hostel from 2* to 3*. This is due to our ongoing renovation programme, which also explains why some...

Absolutely amazing and most peaceful place to get away from it all. It's very difficult to describe the beauty of the location - it must be seen with your own eyes. I've stayed in the hostel for 5 nights and must say that I was more than happy with the facilities and was well looked after. Even though during my... more
