Lovely website. Nice entrance. Very shabby room. The window was cracked, the furniture stained, the TV tiny. I wouldn't have minded so much if they hadn't displayed an award certificate for best refurbished rooms by the lift. Who awarded this? The staff were nice though, the room was clean & it was central. more

What nice pictures online. The reality a bit different though. When you get out of the lift above the ground floor things are not quite so well appointed. The carpets and decore old and smelly. The double room was a lot smaller than expected with just enough room to squeeze around all 3 sides of the large bed. The toilet... more

The website promised so much, and the reality was a real disappointment. The foyer and bar promised much, but once up in the lift the fancy facade fell away. The corridor was scruffy and smelly. The room was clean, but the bathroom tired and mouldy, and the windows were painted shut. The TV was probably from Marconi's age - and... more

Hotel is right in the centre of town and is very pleasant. We requested a quiet room on an upper floor and that is what we got. The room itself was fine and the bed very comfortable. The breakfast was included in our Superbreak 2 night deal and was excellent. A good choice of buffet food and a freshly cooked... more

I had my wedding reception here, my many complaints have been addressed by the owners but I want to warn anyone else, keep on top of them, do not let them get away with anything, check and double check or your big day will be spoiled. The suites themselves are nice but not quite up to the standard they aspire... more

Stayed in this hotel overnight after booking it through the website. From the second I entered the room I regretted it. The room was shabby to say the least. The bathroom was mouldy and the taps only let out hot water, there was no cold water coming from either the sink or bath taps. There was tea, coffee and hot... more

We stayed at the Carmelite as part of a train hotel package deal which was fantastic value for money. We had previously read the mixed reviews of the hotel on Trip Advisor, and where somewhat concerned, however it turned out better than anticipated. The rooms are a bit dated but clean, some rooms seem to have a problem with cold... more

The hotel looked excellent on the web page & and the ground floor lived up to that expectation. The location was good & reasonably quiet for a city centre very close to the railway. The staff we came in contact with were helpful and very pleasant. Breakfast was excellent as was the evening meal we had there. Housekeeping however was... more
