Stayed at hotel for one night on business. Hotel is in city centre although reasonably quiet - although room was at side of hotel and could hear wind outside throughout night. Room was very nice, clean, pretty spacious although no tea/coffee facilities as advertised. Room service was quick although pretty expensive in comparison to similar hotels. Reasonable choice for breakfast... more

Great location! right in the middle of all the shops so was perfect for popping in to town during the day and also stumbling home at night. We were given a complimentry upgrade to one of the newly refurbished rooms and it was lovely! very modern and had loads of space. Service was good friendly staff made us feel welcome.... more

During a ten day stay in Aberdeen and the Scottish highlands, this hotel was the only one to charge for internet. Even modest bed & breakfast places offered free internet--many with the same company that the Caledonian uses. The room was dark, uncomfortable, and overlooked an interior shaft filled with debris. The desk staff could not answer simple questions about... more

Good location, rooms ok but very expensive and where is the justification to charge for internet access when McDonalds can provide free WiFi. more

Management response from

Thank you for taking the time to review The Aberdeen Caledonian. I apologise if there was a misunderstanding with the internet charges. It is stated on our website that the hotel offers high speed broadband access at an additional cost; this is due to an existing contract with our provider. Once again, many thanks for your comments.

The hotel is currently under refurbishment. The parts which have been updated are smart and fashionable.... the room I was in hadnt been touched since the 80s when Dynasty was cancelled but my room carried on the spirit with more jaded gold and glitz than you could shake a stick at. But this doesnt count for anything when you've got... more

The Thistle has been recently refurbished. And it shows. Nearly every fitting and surface seemed to scream a sleek elegance. The couple of staff I mainly dealt with (Nicola, catering, and Will, reception) were particularly friendly, intelligent, helpful & efficient. Hot breakfasts were individually cooked - a welcome departure from the large hotel norm. Free parking and in the city... more

Excellent location. Arrived early but were given a free upgrade to a suite which was newly refurbished to a high standard. Reception staff extremely helpful. Breakfast not very imaginative but OK. Didn't eat in restaurant. Only downside was that at 6'2'' my husband could not fit under static shower! more

The Caledonian hotel used to be a charming and unique hotel in classical English style, high ceilings, leather couches, four-poster beds, etc. Unfortunately, a recent refurbishment has turned it into a "modern design" hotel, now it features plastic chandeliers, purple walls and zebra-pattern rugs, turning it into a generic business hotel, indistinguishable from any other bad-taste "modern" hotels anywhere else... more

Only one person at check-in despite long queue. Very slow service in bar. Given smoking room without being told that was case. Asked for wake-up call which never came. Only one person at check-out despite another long queue. Room looked tired and overlooked mass of scaffolding, totally blocking out any natural light. Very poor value at £109 a night in... more

We had a lovely room - a refurbished one, but were kept awake until 1am by a disco on the floor underneath our room. It was VERY loud - we could hear every word of every song and the bass made the room vibrate. Called reception at 11.30 who told us they would ask for it to be turned down... more
