This is a long overdue review. Last year my daughter, her husband , my husband and I had a wonderful holiday in Cathedral Cottage in London Street. The house had 2 bedrooms and 2 en-suite bathrooms and had every facility supplied. It was very conveniently located, 5 mins to all the main shops. It was lovely and quiet at night.... More

We had a wonderful 5 days at Merchant's House. Food and conversation at breakfast were excellent. Room was beautiful and comfortable. Hosts Joan and Peter were accommodating and gracious. Location is convenient for walking to city center (and bus station) and the University. We highly recommend this excellent B & B.

Thank you Joan and Peter for a welcoming stay. Loved your company and wit, and will hopefully be back after the summer. Peter's wife was out of town for the weekend so Merchant's house was actually supposed to be closed. Peter opened up a room for us anyway and the 4 of us stayed in a two-double bed room in the basement, separate from the main sitting area (beautifully decorated and comfortable). As their website advertizes, this is not for anyone who has difficulty with stairs. The flights are steep and narrow, the bathrooms in each of our two rooms were very small for one person at a time.
