Somehow I thought I was in Faulty Towers, everything seems so quaint and old fashioned and a bit backwards. I stayed there with a group and a lot of the others had nice rooms but I ended up in the basement in a tiny room with very little daylight and the room was extremely damp. you could hear the creaking... We stayed at this hotel/inn during a recent visit to Derry. Again as in my review of Belfast, Derry is a divided city separating Protestants from Catholics. This time it is the river flowing through the town that is the means of separation. The Beech Hill Inn should be of particular interest to American historians studying WW II. There is... More

We called in recently for a much needed refreshment. The arrival of a wedding party was imminent however things were quiet when we arrived and the lounge was empty. We waited for some minutes before the waiter came over to us. We said we would like to order tea and coffee and a sandwich. He disappeared and came back after... More

This house, and the buildings that preceded it, have a long history: going back to the early 17th century when the first Planters came from England. The land, which had originally been owned by Gaelic Irish, was confiscated during that period. Anyway, in modern times - during WWII to be exact - it was the location of the first US... More

We had the set lunch menu and everything was excellent , very flavoursome food and good value for money. All the staff were very friendly and couldn t do enough for us. If you like like good food, good drink and a relaxed (but sometimes quite lively) atmosphere, then this is the place for you. Have never stayed as I'm a local, but you never hear bad reports. The place is full of character and the owners of the establishment couldn't make people feel anymore welcome, have had countless meals out there,... More

From start to finish I wasn't overly pleased with the Beech Hill. First impression was fantastic! The gardens are lovely and the bar area is very nice. I booked my room via expedia which I've done on several occasions for hotels worldwide. This is the first time I've had a hotel say the room wasn't kept because expedia didn't forward... More

This is a great country hotel away from the noise and set in amazing grounds, loaded with history and interesting walks. The ground are incredible. The rooms are large and comfortable and the staff friendly and helpful. The hotel lets itself down with its tired menu and expensive wine list. It has a huge working kitchen garden but the chef... Just spent excellent day and over night stay here. Day started with family wedding with every small touch taken care of. Wedding was in marquee which was gorgeous and meal went smooth with plenty to eat and attentive staff. Homemade breads are to die for. Our Bedroom overlooked the marquee and I didn't find it noisy. Bedroom was old school... More
