My wife and I are frequent visitors to Newcastle and we always go to the Avoca for lunch. The food is excellent and the staff are very friendly. We were there just before Christmas and had their Christmas menu. Vegetable soup with lovely wheaten bread, turkey and ham with all the trimmings, strawberry cheesecake with cream and tea and mince... More

Stayed here whilst at a wedding near by. Staff very helpful. Room a bit dated and the narrow stairs to climb is a handful especially as they have a broken stairlift which took up the little width of the stairs. You cannot pass another person on stairs so you need to reverse back. Breakfast was OK. Perhaps a bit greasy... More

Still rundown Still in need of a make over and still the same carpets on the stairs. Avoca please close down and have a complete make over and bring it... More

Our family dropped in for drinks as we were having a day out to remember the passing of a family member. I only wanted a lemonade, my glass was disgusting, all white round the top of dirty glass there was lipstick on the glass, as I took it back to the bar the staff were rude, I think there is... More

I go for my lunch nearly every day at;The Avoca's Restaurant .The food is tasty and satisfying;served by lovely staff. That's the reason I have been going for the past 7 years. The restaurant is very family friendly and homely. Not having stayed at The Hotel, itself,I can't comment. However my two daughters, who did stay for a night.Said that they had a very... More

Dated, but friendly and clean. Had I stayed the one night, my review may not have been as good, however after staying for 14 nights, I found the staff, facilities and welcome in general at tbe Avoca to be excellent - very clean every where, clean sheets and towels daily (most big hotels don't do this) very very friendly and... I stayed for a couple nights in September and had a warm & cozy basic room that had a great view of the sea. Access to the Mourne Mtns was handy enough. I walked outside the door and was up and down Slieve Donard in time for tea. Breakfast was included in the price. Although it wasn't to my taste,... More
