Ballymote is a lovely manor house just outside Downpatrick. James and Nicola are excellent hosts and very charming and chatty. James in particular was very happy to provide any assistance and advice that he could offer regarding places to see and places to eat. Our room was very comfortable and the bed very relaxing. The breakfast was excellent with a... More

James and I thoroughly enjoyed having you both to stay and thank you very much for taking the time to write a review. I'm glad you enjoyed Ballynoe stone circle and I agree you the walk down the lane is the most magical part! More

We stayed for one night with our daughter. Lovely location and very friendly welcome. Really comfortable rooms and beds plus a fantastic breakfast. The perfect country house experience. Easy access to scenic coastal locations from Ardglass to Strangford ferry.

Wow! What an experience! Ballymote Country House was not even an hour from Belfast and an easy run to get there. After a warm welcome from the dogs, I got to meet the members of the household, who truly are a large part of your experience here! My bags taken upstairs, I was shown around this wonderful historic family home... More

House and our room was beautiful (we stayed in the Curtis room). Bed was super comfy. Peaceful location with lots of walks nearby - Tollymore Forest Park was our favourite. We had our Border Collie with us & there was lots to do nearby to tire her out! Hosts were incredibly friendly and very helpful. Breakfast was delicious, especially the... More

A big thank you to James, Nicola and Edward for making us so comfortable in their beautiful and historic home. This lovely family are natural hosts and extremely kind. Belated review from our stay in June. This was one of best experiences from our month long trip through the Republic and Northern Ireland. Gracious hosts (from three generations of the family!) with a remarkable family history, and truly memorable breakfasts! The house itself is wonderful and the rooms spacious and spotless. No showers if that is an issue but... More

This house was recommended in Alistar Sawday and our experience was quite similar to his....Our hosts made us feel like old friends from America, by swooping us up into their family, giving us freedom of the house and grounds, and sharing a lovely guest room with us, at the top of the stairs. A month ago we had planned to stay at this B&B during our time in Downpatrick. We reviewed the reviews and their website, and although the price was higher, it sounded like it would be higher end. We were very disappointed when we arrived and out of a 3 week trip, this was the first one we reserved that we... More

I am so sorry that we disappointed you, with no shower and a smell of paint. This is not how we wish to be known and can only apologise again. Our baths are 7 foot long, so truly huge and a step back in time to the 1920's when such things were truly luxurious in houses like ours, but unfortunately they... More
