Having read some of the previous reviews, all I can say is there are those who understand places like Tyrella House, and those who don’t. This is not a hotel, nor is it really a standard bed & breakfast – which is what makes staying there so special. David Corbett welcomed us as if we were old friends come to... More

I'm not sure where the other reviews come from but we saw a dirty room with dead flies and bees on the carpet. When we first came looking for a room David advised us that he was full. While talking a little longer he advised that he had a room but the vanity mirror was broken. Didn't matter to us.... More

I am so sorry you did not have a good experience at Tyrella. I try hard to look after my paying guests as if they were my own friends but clearly on this occasion I got it badly wrong. On the night in question there was some sort of event on in Newcastle and as you admitted in your letter... More

We stayed at Tyrella House for 3 nights with great experience with host David Corbett and company of young couple Donald and Kiara from Dublin. A very unique house comprised of two buildings respectively from the 18th & 19th century with an old fortress and cannons. The best part has to be the private beach where we see mermaid's purse... Slightly apprehensive based on some of the reviews, but were very pleasantly surprised. Made to feel very welcome by the owner for whom nothing was too much trouble and cooked a great breakfast each morning. Our room was incredibly spacious and overlooked the beautiful grounds and with very large bathroom. Lovely fluffy towels and good quality bedding all very clean.... More

Gorgeous country home filled with antiques. Mr Corbett, the owner, will be your host. He's a gracious, fascinating gentleman. Home-baked cake with afternoon tea by the fire, talking to Mr Corbett, a highlight.

Stayed one night. Most enjoyable company at dinner in a lovely Georgian dining room (with another couple who were staying) and a congenial host. Lovely house/home let down somewhat by decor [bedroom], dust and cobwebs..and extremely dirty windows. Not so much shabby chic as shabby shabby. Bathroom had ivy/ creeper growing through window and evidence of lots of silicone around... More

My wife and I stayed for one week at Tyrella House. Our first real vacation since I retired Sept '09. My work colleagues very kindly gave us a "Hidden Ireland" voucher. David (owner of Tyrella)made us feel at home from the moment we arrived. Do not leave this quaint house without sampling David's superb, tasty and inventive dinners! This is... More

Warned about the cold by a recent TripAdvisor review, we arrived at Tyrella House with thermal underwear and cashmere sweaters. Not much good. A few plug-in heaters and two logs flickering weakly at one end of a vast fireplace made almost no impact on this glacial Georgian house. A well cooked dinner served in an icy dining room failed to... More

We had a wonderful weekend at Tyrella House, David couldn't have been a more charming host and the food and atmosphere was really great. Dinner by candlelight in the stunning dining room was delicious and very atmospheric and was only spoiled by the fact that the room was freezing cold. There doesn't appear to be any central heating in the... More

We found Tyrella House by chance, but how fortunate we were! We spent a weekend in this gracious house, situated beside the sea against the backdrop of the great sweep of the Mourne Mountains. Everything at Tyrella comes together to create an exceptional experience - the beauty of the house and grounds, the individual character of each of the lovely... More
