This was a very quick stop over for me. The hotel is beautiful and the staff are excellent! Very attentive. We had lunch while here and found a great choice of food. Lot's of variety but not very healthy. The desserts looked amazing! Can be expensive but in a great location. Loved the decor! I would return!

I was here for a meeting/course and I have to comment on the lunch buffet. As it is not suitable nourishment for people who are here for a full day. Also does not cater for anyone with dietry requirements. I am happy that I did not have to pay for it as if I were I would certainly be looking elsewhere.

My partner and I recently stayed in the Merchant Hotel. It’s a very impressive looking hotel and our room was very comfortable and well appointed. The breakfast was nice, despite asking for a soft egg on my Eggs Benedict but receiving a hardboiled egg. The cocktail bar is nice, but can work out expensive as the drinks are also subject... More

Have been in the Merchant before for drinks but this time we ventured in for a meal between Christmas and New Year. This is one of the most beautiful hotels I have been in around the world and previously I would have been proud to extol its virtues to others as I do when being proud of where I am... More

My husband and I and our 9 year old spent a Saturday night in the Merchant. We ate in Berts Jazz bar at the earlier setting. The food was excellent and I particularly appreciated that the children's menu had interesting alternatives such as mussels for starters and a good steak and vegetables for main course and not the chicken nuggets... We visited the merchant hotel on saturday afternoon for one of their popular afternoon teas....as we had been given lovely gift vouchers, 4 of us decided to use them on this. We chose the option from the menu with the glass of champagne.....nice, and arrived promptly, as did the four finger sandwiches per person, and tiered cake stands with several... More

Have just returned from a nights stay at the merchant and cannot sing its praises enough. As soon as we walked through the door it was 5 star luxury all the way, lots of attention to detail and nice little complimentary treats. Very professional staff.

I stayed at this hotel with my family on the 13th of December 2014. From the moment we entered this hotel until we left we were treated like royalty. The service was very professional and efficient. The hotel room was the Art Deco and it was beautiful and modern. The room was very clean and the bed was so comfortable... More

The Merchant is certainly due its 5-star rating. We had a one night B&B stay with dinner added on to bring a bit of luxury to our Christmas shopping. Staff were friendly and efficient, the Victorian rooms very comfortable and the food very good indeed - although my personal preference would have been for a more traditional Christmas dinner. The...
