Although situated in a convenient location, the standard of service here is atrocious. I was greeted at Reception with the comment that they were too busy to deal with me and that I'd have to wait. When I entered my room, the welcome note on the TV gave my surname only, no Mr, no first name, nothing. Light bulb over... more

Good for a short stay and very convenient for the M4, this is a strange mixture of elderly bits (the bar area looks very 70s) and new (my room had been excellently updated). Staff are helpful and some of the serving crew at breakfast a real hoot. Breakfast is an acceptable buffet, typical Holiday Inn style. more

This hotel is handy and cheap and if you get one of the refurbished rooms and bathrooms you will have a better experience. Depending where your room is you may get disturbed, so ask for a room away from reception. The unfortunate problem with this hotel is the management do little to help the staff serve you better. While I... more

We booked in advance and got 1 night stay for 2 including breakfasts for £55 and after reading the other reviews I was dreading what we would encounter. A couple of days before arriving I rang and requested a refurbished room. It could not have been better - spacious, clean, modern, huge comfortable bed and immaculate bathroom. Flat screen TV,... more

Old rooms, TV broken, room service food cold yet beer hot. Don't get me wrong I'm not a complainer. The staff were nice, and the hotel is easy to find. more

The title says it all really. We paid £128 room only to stay at Travel Inn Newport for one night whilst attending an event in Cardiff. Despite booking a non-smoking room, the stench of smoke in our room was overwhelming. This is bonkers, but I had to tie a clean t-shirt over my mouth and nose so as to get... more

The photo on Trip Advisor is of the wrong hotel. As other people have said, this hotel needs refurbishing. The good news is that some rooms are already updated. The room I stayed in (June 2009) has been upgraded to a very high standard, a very nice modern innovative design. Other areas of the hotel were only average. Food was... more

As some other reviews have posted, this is a Holiday Inn in dire need of a facelift. We (wife and I) abtained a cheap late B&B deal at £80 for the night. Unfortunately the quality of the room did not match the price. Grubby! The en suite had that "smell" where damp had migrated into various part of the bathroom... more

I booked a twin non-smoking room for two nights some time ahead, and when I checked in was given the key and set off merrily to my room. I was a little wary of the atrocious 'Crossroads Motel' style exterior and decor and things looked a little shabby inside, but all seemed well until I opened the door of my... more

The most important and lasting impression you get of any hotel is the welcome that you receive at reception. We were met by an automaton who could it seemed only answer questions that she was programmed to answer. If you should dare to ask something else then you will be met by a blank expression until you revert to the... more
