Room smelt of mould. View of Jewsons and a railway line. Really really hot, no aircon and the window didn't open. Breakfast not worth the money, and it didn't cost much. If you must stay here, go to a cafe for breakfast. No tissues in the room, no glass in the bathroom for teeth cleaning. One dirty cheap plastic teaspoon... more

Our overwhelming memory of our two nights stay at The Lodge is the unremitting heat in the rooms. During the whole period, day or night, the room thermometer never dropped below 28C (82F). The windows are designed not to open and the airconditioning is incapable of dealing with warm weather; the outside temperature during our stay rose to a shortlived... more

We could only get Take That tickets for Cardiff so we booked this hotel because of its proximity to Cardiff City Centre and decided to stay a couple of days because we'd never been to Wales before. Although we arrived at about 6pm on Sunday the room we were allocated was still being cleaned. The guy doing the cleaning said... more

Stayed overnight wth friends for concert at CIA. Basic hotel rooms beginning to look scruffy and in need of a good clean, Linen and towels clean, no bath just large shower cubicle, did feel the bathroom could have done with a better clean.Housekeeping staff obviously don't check rooms and report problems as got to our room aircon not working, no... more

I booked this hotel mainly because it one of only a few that you can book two double beds, unlike some hotels its wasnt a pull out spare bed. Check in was quick and easy. The room was basic and clean. The bathroom got the thumbs up for being bigger than average and there was soap and a towel rail.... more

My title might be a bit harsh so I will explain. The Mecure has lovely well-furnished rooms and bathrooms (I actually loved the layout of the bathroom and the size of the shower) but when you look closer you realise that apart from these nice funishings, it is not much better than a budget Travelodge. Reasons - there was no... more

We stayed at the Mecure Lodge over bank holiday weekend, 23-24 May. Other reviews here paint a fair picture: the hotel is modern and spacious and we were pretty happy except that the air conditioning in our room wasn't working. It might not have mattered except that the weather was very hot and our room was very uncomfortable and the... more

A bit remote unless you have a car. The nearest place to have dinner if you do not want to walk into town is at the Novotel which is close to this area. If you have a car, this hotel is convenient to Cardiff Bay where there are a number of restaurants and a good variety. Also there is a... more

We were 3 girls staying here for the night for a concert at the Arena. Booked room direct with hotel. They matched a price we had found online with an agent so it was really good value. We were originally booked into the Etap, but for £10 more we booked this instead. Plenty of free parking & breakfast was included... more

pleasant staff & quite efficient, rooms good size but could do with a lick of paint. toilet was a bit smelly in our room but the bathroom was a good size and the shower was excellent. not enough teabags or milk for the numbers in the room, but happy to supply more upon request. overall good value for a basic... more
