I am sure The George used to brim with charm! Now its very tired, dated and shabby. There are a few signs of updating and the conservatory restaurant is pleasant enough .... but there is far more work to be done!! Please! Call me old fashioned, but I do not like waiting staff to dress in jeans. Parking is a... More

My husband and I stayed here with our 6 month old son on our way to a wedding. We asked for a family room, which was huge, the room needs some decorating. The breakfast was lovely and the service was good.

When we arrived at the hotel, we were greeted by a very friendly gentleman who really made us feel at home straight away. He ran us through the usual stuff (fire exits, breakfast, bar location etc). before showing us the room. First impressions of the hotel were great; the bar was modern and light, the restaurant looked really clean and... More

Arrived at the hotel to be told they had double booked me (even though I booked over 3 months in advance) so said for me to go to a different hotel in Brecon. The other hotel weren't aware of this so when I checked out they wanted to charge their rates - £20 more. The George tried to refuse to... More

After reading trip advisor reviews we were sceptical about our choice as we had booked first, checked out reviews AFTER. Many other reviews were negative, snobbish & very unfair. On arrival we were greeted by kind & friendly staff and yes there were frayed carpets & wonky pictures but that reflected the age, character & history of the wonderful building... More

We stayed at this hotel in February- I will never return to this hotel again! The rooms are horrid, the place has loads of character but is simply run down. The manager is so rude and how staff tolerate him I don't know. Constantly grumpy and simply barking at you if you asked a question about food... We left and... More

Dear Travel T The George underwent a change of management early March 2015. It is difficult for me to comment on your review of nearly 3 months ago, but if I can be of assistance my email is enquiries@george-hotel.com. Many thanks Matthew Hadfield More

Good points: friendly staff and great breakfast Neutral points: room ok, reasonably spacious, fairly clean, wifi worked Not so good: very small tv Major Negatives: everywhere shabby and tatty, insufficient parking places, very grubby, musty-smelling bathroom (see photo). Must be nicer places to stay for the same money.

We were in Brecon National Park for a weekend of walking, and picked the George Hotel as the base to stay for a night. My first impression was that it looked like the old hotel from the file ‘Hot Fuzz’. The staff were friendly, and the food looked good, however I didn't try it. My room ‘Number 9’ was in... More

Stayed here for a family gathering in March 2015. We had 3 rooms in total. not one would be considered acceptable. Glad we were only there one night! On checking in we asked about parking, all we had in anyway of an answer was a shrug of the shoulders. Ended up in the supermarket next door which involved a early... More

We stayed here over Easter, and although I was less than impressed with our family room on the top floor, we did ultimately enjoy our trip thanks to the local area, good weather and the hotel breakfast! We arrived and found the hotel was very old, which we love, but in need of some refurbishment on the rather grand staircase... More
