We booked into the Angel on the off-chance after a walking trip throughout the area. My wife and I are both in our fifties and enjoy a little luxury from time to time and from the outside the Angel looked just that. We were met with a smiley face which is always nice and we were offered to have our... more

Stayed 2 nights on a supposed 'gourmet' break in a superior double newly refurbished room. The room (28) was small and dark, the furniture layout was neither pleasing on the eye or user friendly. The bed was very small & the mattress offered no support at all, very uncomfortable to sleep in, we are a lightly built couple, if you're... more

Great room, friendly reception, superb restaurant. I would definitely plan to stay there again if in the area. Worth a detour if not quite in the area! more

I can't find fault in the Angel. They are busily refurbshing the old dated rooms and you should ask for the better rooms when you book they will point you in the right direction. I have stayed there many times over the last 18 months and I have my favourite. The new rooms are really very exceptional for this grade... more

The staff were charming. The rooms were pleasant. The food was satisfying in every regard. (breakfast and dinner) On the first night we had a standard room and on the second night a luxury room. In both cases a lift would have been useful and we understand one is being fitted shortly. Both rooms were quiet, the beds comfortable and... more

Having stayed at the Angel for one night admittedly in one of their cheaper rooms we left feeling very dissatisfied. The Hotel is spotlessly clean but the ambience is zero. Our room was large and airy but the double bed was so small, and neither of us are very large people, we found it very uncomfortable. Service at breakfast was... more

The exterior and the public areas of this hotel are very nice and when I checked in, I thought it all seemed very promising. My room was large and full of character. The floor was uneven and creaky but to be expected in a building of this age and added to its character. The bathroom was dated but clean. On... more

I recently stayed at The Angel Hotel at Abergavenny with a group of friends as part of our annual trip to play golf together. We all congratulated the staff for making our stay so enjoyable. The service, especially from those in the restaurant (both morning and evening), was outstanding. Courteous, efficient and charming they made our evenings a great pleasure.... more

Spent just one night at the Angel but we were really happy with the room (deluxe double), the service (all staff we met were lovely and professional) loved our meal (£44 for 2 courses, drinks, complimentary appetisers and chocs at the end) and felt the cost was reasonable at £130 for the room. the hotel was well furnished, bathroom was... more

At the end of our honeymoon in Wales, we were looking forward to a final night spent in Abergavenny. Unfortunately it was rather a disappointment - the Angel looked promising as we approached it from the outside but wasn't really up to a closer look. In its defence, the top-floor room we were in was certainly big and had probably... more
