We booked a room her to stay at as we had a wedding nearby. The website looked really nice but on our first night we found the bathroom to have black mildew in the grouting and all over the tiles in the shower, the loo seat didn't fit the loo and was cracked, the showere head was so limescaled up... I booked this hotel as a 'treat' for my boyfriend on his birthday as he was best man for his friend on this day also. Having been to all of the other Lazy Cow's and sharing very fond memories of them I expected it to be great! We stayed on the 20th September 2014. I phoned and booked our room... More

Everything looks great the rooms are luxurious and we'll equipped, the exterior is grand and the view and location really nice, but the general housekeeping and hygiene are well below standard. Accumulated dust on all surfaces, ledges, rims and every object below or above 5ft. Bathroom full of mould and fungi, really a threat to your health. The information folder... More

We booked two nights for a typical traditional british pub stay in this wonderful historic building. The actual experience was still ok but could have been much better if the hotel owner/staff would pay more attention to the details. The really good thing was the excellent food and the very friendly restaurant staff. On the other side the hotel seems... More

My friend and I stayed (in separate rooms) here in mid-September for two nights. We were delighted on entering the rooms (after managing to open them - it took a while to master the locks) as they're full of character and charm but I was disappointed to discover that two of the bulbs in the ceiling lights were not working,... My girlfriend and I stayed at the Lazy Cow for one night, and with some bad reviews on here were a little nervous. But the hotel is nowhere near as bad as some say. In fact, with a few improvements it could be very good. The biggest problem we found was the bed - very uncomfortable sleep. The bathroom has... More

Love the theme, the building, location and the food however does need a little attention. The bathroom grouting was heavily stained and the sink leaked, there was a large selection of luxury coffee pods but no coffee machine to put them in and the breakfast was cooked beautifully but the self serve table (tea, coffee, juices etc) was often missing... Our rooms were both dirty, the bathrooms smelt like dirty cloths with a blob of dodgy 'fluid' on the floor. Dust everywhere, the carpets...get a proper Hoover as we heard it going whilst we were waiting waiting for an hour over check- in time to get into our room. It is in a fantastic location and that is it's only... More

We stayed here overnight on route from Cornwall to Colchester. This hotel has themed rooms and we found ourselves at the very top of the hotel in the Moo Suite, which has cowhide covers around the bed and a huge poster of a gorgeous hairy cow on the wall, even the lamps shades were made from small milk bottles. I... More

Unfortunately I have to say that this place has lost its attraction and is completely run down by management. The rooms are in very bad condition and very dirty. The springs came through the mattress, bath is disgusting. Mold everywhere, bath panel came off and tab of the sink was leaking. Had to dust the bed side tables to put... More
