Had booked 2 nights, only stayed one. The double room en suite was small, bathroom lovely. Car park limited. Had a rather tired appearance, reception area needed painting, lots of chipped paint, not welcoming, internet description misleading. I was on vacation from USA, but from Edinburgh originally. I was politely explaining to the owners wife that the hotel was not... more

We stayed here for a weekend following the reviews, maybe we got it on a bad weekend. Good points were it's location in respect to the city and in a quiet residential area only 5 mins walk to the centre. It was relatively clean...BUT Down points, the rooms smelt damp, I guess mainly due to lack of adequate ventilation but... more

the room we had was the cleanest we've ever stayed in - it had an en-suite which was 100% sparkling clean - the sheets and towels were snowy white - spare pillows and blanket in a plastic zipped-up case in wardrobe - tea and coffee replaced every day, along with shampoo, conditioner and shower gel in the en-suite - the... more

I stayed for 2 nights to tour the area. I arrived a bit early but the room was ready. It was small but more than adequate for one person, and very clean. Barbara was helpful with directions in town and pointed me to a great little take-away fish and chips place named Stoby's (mind the amount of salt they add).... more

My mother can walk short distances, and can handle a couple of steps up or down with steadying and patience. I am rarely able to book lodgings to go sightseeing with her except by phone, because few British lodgings mention whether they have ground floor accommodations or lifts. I had to telephone. But on the phone, Byways understood what we... more

Byways is located on the hill, just couple minutes of walking to the centre, in beautiful victorian house with nice garden. It was very quiet and we didn´t here anything (not like in most of other accomodations in the UK with very thin walls, where u hear everything your neigbours r doing...). our room was spacious and very elegantly furnitured,... more

Byways House is a charming B&B located within easy walking distance of the city centre. The original house has a modern addition on the back with modern rooms, so a nice blend of the old and new. The staff were very helpful, the breakfast was good, and the rates reasonable. The only drawback we had was our room had a... more
