We stayed here last year and rated it 4 stars, yet this time considering we were sent an email before we stayed to confirm our room would be spotless due to Covid-19 -our room felt a little grubby around the edges. There was black mold in our showe. When we asked for fresh towels and the bins to be cleaned in the morning after 2 nights when we returned back from a long day out this hadn't been done. Unfortunately we had to get the manager to do it in the evening. What we did notice was that the manager was totally run off his feet trying to do everyone else's job, where was his help? It seemed unfair on him. He was obviously trying his best under the circumstances. The room's hand wash also ran out, it wasn't stocked up when we arrived which is surprising when we are in a pandemic and hand cleaning is essential. Also the car park bins gave the exterior of the hotel a really bad look as they were overflowing.

Stayed here regularly over past few years, not been for a while.
Was very disapointed. The room was looking tired, floor was dirty. Beds old and tired. The bacon at breakfast was undercooked and slimy. nobody would eat it was left in a pile.
The staff who are normally happy in there work looked fed up, later we learnt this was due to a change in manager. The old manger was always there to Great the customer in a morning and make you feel welcomed.
New policy that your card is charged the day before your stay, this was never the case and we were paying cash on arrival but only to find we were too late the money had been taken out of our account with no warning.

A typical Holiday Inn Express. Standard room, lots of free parking and good free Wi-fi. Breakfast is included and is ok, with cereals, yogurt, some fruit, hot choices and bread etc. Good value for money.

Asked for a double room got 2 singles, what is it with these type of hotels with fans, toilet fan blowing all night, sound of fans coming from other rooms, massive fan next to the tv at breakfast sounded like a wind turbine, couldn’t hear the tv.
No sausages for breakfast was told 10 minutes, great I will just hang around then.
Go to Garforth its more but there is a reason.
Breakfast is worth £5 only

I always consider Holiday Inn to be at the higher end of the budget hotel spectrum. I've stayed in 6-7 different hotels and this was by far the worst. Service has been cut to the bone with the universal excuse of Covid slated. To get the promised hot breakfast you had to brave the wrath of the receptionist who seemed to be the only member of staff working at the hotel. Given the circumstances I totally understand he fowl mood. But then the hot breakfast the was offered consists of desiccated bacon or sausage served on stale bread. Couldnt even be bothered to butter it. One day I even got the crust... Hopefully it will make my hair curl. The room wasn't serviced so again I had to trouble the hotel staff for fresh towels. She was clearly unimpressed at guests not settling for what they were given. I appreciate that Covid means some things will be different bit this hotel is has clearly furlowed the staff and is cashing in by offering a cut price service. Will stay elsewhere next time even if it costs an extra fiver

Room 133 has a massive stain on the ceiling: obviously a very bad overflow from the room above:the colour was simply horrible We were concerned about the hazard to our health. In the bathroom there were hairs from two different people: a short dark brown in the basin and several long ginger blondes stuck to tiles and the shower curtain...yuk. Both mattress' were so soft they shook like a jelly whenever you went near them. We both have back issues: I'm registered disabled due to its severity. We asked for another room within minutes of our arrival. Despite a near empty carpark (at 10 p.m.) and a deserted reception/bar we were told there weren't any? We found that hard to believe. We never slept due to the completely unsupportive mattress'. We gave up trying and were up by 3 a.m. I have had a resurgence of pain and inability to walk far since. We complained to the morning staff. The lady was full of apologies and said she would speak to her manager when she arrived at lunchtime. I left the hairs and photographs with the member of staff. We were told the manager would contact us: a week later we're still waiting. As IHG members we always stay in Hi Express but no longer. At least Premier Inn they guarantee a good night sleep. Leeds needs new beds urgently. According to the staff apparently some rooms have new matresses but not #133. A horrible stay and obviously uncaring manager. We are so disappointed, not just st the room but the lack of compassion and attention from the manager. Save your backs and stay somewhere else. We will never return and probably never to HI Express as well. We understand that sometimes it is difficult to accommodate everyone but there were hardly any occupied rooms so it would have been easy to offer us another room. There is simply no excuse for the manager ignoring customers. The manager of HI Express Leeds East requires training in how to contact customers as she obviously has no idea.

Stayed here for two nights and the booking was for two adults and two children. When arriving we found a double bed and a double sofa bed.

The double sofa bed was very very uncomfortable. As you will see from my photos - the ‘mattress’ for it was mega thin. So thin that when I laid on it, I could feel the metal and wood underneath which made for an uncomfortable night. Two singles would have been much better or failing that, a better quality sofa bed available.

Breakfast was super and the price we got for the room was good value. The hotel is some way out of Leeds City Centre so if you want to be in the middle of all the action, I’d choose somewhere closer. If you can commute, this hotel’s location is fine.

There is a Toby Carvery next door to use which is a bonus.

Hi PeteB73738079, Thank you for choosing to stay with us and for posting a candid review. While I am glad that you appreciated our breakfast, I was also concerned to read your comments about the sofabed in your room. I understand your dismay, and I am sorry. This is not the frictionless experience that we wanted for all our guests. I will make sure to share your comments with our team for the necessary improvements needed on our end. Thanks again, and I still hope you would give us another chance in the future. Mike F. Case Manager IHGService

stayed 1 night to break up a journey. Staff pleasant and helpful. Room adequate in size and amenities but looks a bit tired and grubby. needs an update. the room was hot and it was not possible to open the window. Soundproofing from the corridor was poor as a group of 3-4 leaving very early woke me up!
Good value for money and included breakfast

Great functional, clean ground floor room, ample parking and lovely friendly staff across the entire hotel. Bathroom could do with a face lift but entirely clean & functional. My wife is temporarily in a wheelchair, and the staff could not do enough to assist - lovely genuine touch.
