We stayed at the ship hotel for one night as we had a wedding to go to in the area. We booked a king room months ago and yet a couple of days before our stay we got a phone call saying that the shower would not be working (as when the hotel is full the pressure is too low... more

I stayed at the Ship Hotel in November 2008 along with 4 other work colleagues for a business meeting the following day. Check in (and check out) was efficient. The booking had been made by a colleague's office and the fact that the bar was being completely refurbished was not mentioned at the time of booking. As it was the... more

First impressions were favourable on arrival at this fine old listed building right on a quiet stretch of the High Street. The reception, bar and dining room all appeared bright and fresh with contemporary furnishings and decoration. Staff were friendly and helpful. Our room, the family room on the top floor, was clean and spacious enough for 2 adults and... more

I hardly know where to start, but here goes, reception staff very brusque and not very helpful. I called to advise them we would be a day late checking in, and was met with a bark that " you cant have a refund". I didnt ask for one. The parking at the rear is woefully inadequate. There was a wedding... more

Overpriced, faceless hotel with no character. Although clean nobody seems to care about the place. The corridors are dowdy and the lift from another century, or possibly two. The reception staff dont appear to recognise the fact that there are guests around. They arent rude but they aren't bothered either. The breakfast was mediocre, watery fruit salad and powdery muesli.... more

We needed accommodation for just one Saturday night to see a show at the Chichester Festival Theatre. For that purposes, this hotel was fine. Neglected to read TripAdvisor for once and our experiences echoed that of many others. A week before our arrival, I got a phone call from the hotel saying that our room would be bath only as... more

This was the 3rd time I have stayed at the hotel this year through business. The rooms are very well decorated, modern, but homely. Comfortable beds and thick carpet. The staff are all friendly and helpful. The restaurant serves great food at dinner and buffet breakfast. Only grips previously was breakfast not being available at the start time of 7am,... more

i stayed here for two nights with a number of people from a wedding party. - Our room wasn't cleaned - It was impossible to order food out of normal hours - When you addressed most of the staff they looked at you as if you were speaking giberish When my wife was asked whether she enjoyed her meal in... more

We've stayed at The Ship several times and, when we previously visited in December 2007, were delighted and had no complaints whatsoever (see previous review). Unfortunately, this time our experience wasn't nearly so good and overall we were disappointed with our stay. When we stayed in December, we found our twin room was beautifully decorated and although it overlooked the... more

I took my mother and father to Chichester recently and had booked the ship hotel as it was the only central town hotel of a reasonable size and quality. When we arrived at the hotel we were greeted by friendly staff and our room overlooked north street which is one of the main four streets of the town centre. We... more
