Chichester is full of history, an old roman city, still with walls around it. Excellent base for exploring the Portsmouth-Arundel area or attending the Chichester theatre festivals. The Ship Hotel is the only one within the city walls. It is on one of the main streets but our very spacious room with ensuite bathroom - a superior at 120 pounds... more

The Ship is positioned right in Chichester town centre and it is easy to walk out and see the sights. The hotel itself is charming with reasonably comfy rooms. The staff there are most pleasant and the public areas e.g. the bar and restaurant likewise. The food in the restaurant however was overpriced and totally mediocre and on the nights... more

Maybe we were unlucky when we visited The Ship but there was quite a lot wrong with The Ship when we were there. Having booked a superior room, it turned out to be disappointingly small, with one bedside light not working, one bathroom light not working, a broken hook on the back of the door and wardrobe doors which were... more

After arriving at a different hotel on the busy race weekend in August (that we'd booked the previous year) we found out that our booking had been 'lost' & there were no rooms left. Many frantic calls later to find alternative accommodation, we were so lucky to find the Ship Hotel. We were so grateful to the friendly and helpful... more

Stayed here for one night for a quick business meeting before spending the evening and the following day enjoying the lovely Cathedral city of Chichester. Situated in a great location with shops and restaurants only a few minutes walk away, the hotel is stylishly designed and has a great ambience, also a small car park is located at the rear... more

Oh dear; 9.40 this morning arrived from London, we saw the bill board stating breakfasts until 10am, checked at reception who checked and confirmed breakfasts were being served until 10am. We queued behind a couple who were shown to one of the many empty tables. The hostess, 'maitre de table' returned, we smiled and we said we weren't guests in... more

Management response from

This was a very unfortunate incident and one for which I and my staff unreservedly apologise, it is not now nor has it ever been our practice to turn away guests.

I have never written a review on a hotel before, but I felt compelled to write one in respect of an excellent period hotel I have recently stayed at in Chichester. Having decided to take a short break to relax and spend time enjoying the sights of this historic City, I booked 3 nights at The Ship, seeing that it... more

I stayed here for a weekend recently with some friends and we were all impressed with the Ship Hotel's location, its cleanliness and the staff who were pleased to accommodate all of our requests. We also eat at the hotel and I have to say enjoyed some wonderful grub! more

Ambience is excellent Rooms marvellous – excellent free WI FI too. I didn’t personally try the restaurant, but on a Sunday night it was packed. Just one problem………………….
