Me and my boyfriend spent a weekend in Birmingham, choosing this hotel to stay in because we got a really good deal. Based on the reviews we didn't expect anything luxurious, actually quite the opposite- however we were pleasantly surprised. From the outside the hotel looks quite shabby, however inside the reception is pretty nice and the restaurant as well.... more

This hotel was built in the 70's and has not been refurbished or cleaned since. Our room was pokey, with dirty net curtains, stained walls and radiators, well worn carpet and the bathroom stank. We didn't even unpack as the small wardrobe smelt really bad. As for eating the hotel we didn't risk it. On a plus side the staff... more

Dear Jamcar77 I notice that you stayed here last in August 07, Menzies hotels purchased this hotel in September 07 and during 2008 the company have spent in excess of 2 million pounds refurbishing the hotel to what is now a very high standard, the hotel now boasts a new contemporary look and warm and welcoming feel to it. I...

Staff at reception are always helpful and efficent. Gets busy when there are conferences on in Birmingham. The restaurant is a nice environment and good is of decent quality both for Dinner and Breakfast. I've had a single and double exec room, the single room is small but not too small and you do get a window. The car park... more

First impressions were very good. However, only one lift of two working and our room was on fifth floor. Note: Appears lift has been out of order for some considerable time, a March review highlights it as a problem then, old notices state that there is an expectation it will be serviced within a few days. When not carrying luggage... more

I stayed at the hotel on a business trip for 4 nights, in February. The hotel was conveniently situated on a short 10 mins cab ride from the centre of Birmingham. The staff on arrival and the waiters at the restaurant were well mannered and approachable. The only thing I did not like were the walls separating the rooms...not good...... more

I stayed in this hotel for one night. My room looked a bit tired and was increbibly hot. My colleagues thought the same. One (out of two) lifts was broken. Breakfast was reasonable, but nothing special. The hotel located a short taxi ride away from the city centre. more

Great location with a bus stop into the centre right outside, and helpful friendly staff on the reception who know about the area, but those are the only positives. The room was refurbished and nicely done but was tiny with only one small wardrobe that had a cupboard inside that took up so much space that you could not hang anything... more

Negatives - Hotel is stil undergoing the refurbishment mentioned in previous reviews. Our room was quite small, as all the rooms appear to be in a rotunda it was also an odd wedge shape. The replacement of the bulky TV sat on a low table, at the thin end of this room would vastly improve a major space issue. This... more

We had a fantastic weekend room rate for the hotel, inclusive of breakfast. Other reviewers have mentioned the refurbishment; we saw none of this, though it is clearly ongoing as there are notices posted throughout the hotel. Our room was modern and freshly decorated. We had an inside room - a strange cheese-wedge shape, but in itself fine. The window... more

Had to stay at the Srathallan for 1 night whilst attending a conference at the ICC as all the central Birmingham hotels were fully booked. Check in was quick and staff friendly, first impressions were quite good and the reception area was bright and contemporary. Bar area looked comfortable and was pleasantly busy. However, the room, whilst clean, was small... more
