Had a twin bedded room in the accommodation block over the road from Lucas house. This is a little shabby but the room was clean and a reasonable size. Breakfast is served in Lucas House and is excellent with a hot and cold buffet. The evening menu is also excellent, as are the staff. There is a small bar which... More

For £80 a night I expected a bit more. Breakfast was good but basic. The room small but tatty. I don't know when this place was last done up but it needs an overhaul. Conduit and trunking everywhere hiding cables and all the pipe work boxed up. Needs some tlc. Furniture wasn't great either. It was otherwise functional but not... More

Not quite what we expected but on the whole it was functional. A bit pricy (£80 per night) on the balance of things hence the low score. The place really needs a refit. Built in the 70s I haven't a clue when it was last refurbished. The rooms are small and what was apparent was the amount of trunking used... More

It is a great location for visiting Birmingham University, being on the doorstep, but also for the pubs in Harborne and Edgbaston as well as Edgbaston cricket ground. Its also handy for the city centre as its not far to walk to the Bristol road where there are frequent buses into the centre. However, it is basic accommodation in an... More

we were more than surprised as the room was better than the crowne plaza we stayed at last time we visited my partners daughter and so convenient for her to meet us. Very comfortable and lovely breakfast. A great asset to the university.

We were attending an open day at Birmingham University. This conference venue is basic but cheap. The breakfast is good but the evening menu is limited but adequate. We only had the choice of fish and chips on a Friday evening but managed to get them to cook steak which was good. The big advantage was the proximity to the... More

We stayed here while visiting a niece who is studying at the University. The location is excellent for the University and the price is reasonable, especially with the free parking. On the plus side the staff were friendly, the rooms with bathrooms were spotless, had everything we needed and breakfast was good. The overall memory of our stay however was... More

Having booked a stay in venuebirmingham and upon reaching Edgbaston Park Road I had thought it would be easy to locate venuebirmingham. Not so! Driving up and down the road it is full of residential accommodation mainly for students all looking pretty much the same. Checking each "Birmingham University" sign as we drove by not one mentioned venuebirmingham. Asking around... More

You've just identified the single biggest worry we have - and the one that we can do very little about I am afraid! We are part of the University of Birmingham - and part of the Calthorpe Estate, and as such we have very strict restrictions on the signage we can place on Edgbaston Park road. I would love to... Good stay here, convenient. Rooms quite basic, free parking which is a bonus. The food however is fantastic. Ate in the restaurant and opted for the fish & chips. They were the best fish and chips I have ever eaten ... and I've eaten a lot of fish & chips! Credit to the chef.

I always stay here when I visit Birmingham University. It is right next to the campus, is extremely reasonable in terms of price (£40 per night for a single room), has great breakfasts included in the price, and is very professionally run. OK, it is a bit like staying in student accommodation; the rooms are basic. But you have your... More
