A bit like stepping back into the 80s. The rooms and common parts certainly give the impression that they are about 10 years past their best. Common parts areas are scuffed; the carpets threadbare in places and the door locks temperamental. The room itself is just plain scruffy and had the vague smell of either someone having smoked in the... More

I've stayed in many Ramada's and never been disappointed until I stayed here. The location is fantastic, overlooking the canal and adjacent to the bars and restaurants. The reception, bar and restaurant area are all well presented. The let down starts from when you press the lift call button. The lifts are old and tatty, when you reach your floor,... More

Stayed here while on a business trip. Staff are friendly and helpful, the room is clean and nice. Bed was comfy and shower was really good. The hotel itself though could do with a lot of TLC, it's worn down, I stayed on the 5th floor and the whole floors carpets were worn, Ill fitting, and every single bit was... More

Not being familiar with Birmingham we drove around for about an hour trying to locate the hotel's car park, which is actually the Mailbox car park. 24 hours parking is very expensive and I always resent paying to park at a hotel we are already paying for. The staff were friendly, very responsive to our needs etc. The hotel itself... More

I was expecting a lot worse judging by the reviews but I was pleasantly surprised, our room was big and spacious (although needed more lighting) the bathroom was fully equipped and clean and the staff were helpful and attentive despite a slow check in process. We booked this hotel mainly for the price and location and we were not disappointed.

Great location, good value, room clean but tired and in need of a refurb (especially the mattress in room 527). Room smelt strongly of smoke! Wonderful canal view though. Great breakfast. The breakfast staff in particular were very attentive.

Stayed here for four nights as I was attending a conference and this hotel was selected by travel company as it was close by. Positives- Defo close to icc/barclay card arena; ten mins walk. Handy for lots of nice places to eat right next to hotel Rooms decent size Friendly staff on front desk Cheap Negatives- Poor breakfast selection -... More

Three nights here primarily for a local conference. Hard to find lower ground floor entrance. Room keys didn't work (2 out of 3) for entire duration of stay, despite being replaced, recoded three times! Poor internal decorations. Clean enough, bug-free beds. Mildew shower sealant. Grot of ages behind bathroom basin tap. Breakfast ok. Good location, many bars and restaurants locally.... More

We stayed here last night. Yes, as with other reviews there are places that need attention but for what we needed it was more than good enough. On check in we were greeted by friendly staff that couldn't be more helpful. The gentleman on the desk could see we were a couple and asked if we'd like to change our... More

The Ramada is set in The Mailbox which, when work is completed, will be an impressive addition to Birmingham. The hotel overlooks the canal and is surrounded by medium price chain restauarants (Cafe Rouge etc). Unfortunately the hotel does not live up to its setting and is a bit down at heel: the carpets in the corriders are held together... More
