We had spend a wonderful week in Europe and on route home stopped for one night in Birmingham to visit friends. Unfortunately we checked into this horrible hotel. With an eight month old, and all that comes with that, we were given the furthest away room from reception, which would be fine were it not for the lack of a... more

The Plough and Harrow Hotel is three hundred years old in some parts and a grade two listed building. Unfortunately due to the structure of the building a lift cannot be built in the main part and 90% of the rooms are in a newer block at the rear of the hotel only accessable from the first floor. The staff...

We used this hotel as a base for a reunion, booking six rooms on a D/B/B deal for three nights. All the rooms were well appointed and comfortable, although some were rather tortuous to get to in this Grade II building. The breakfasts were great, with comprehensive, freshly cooked food. The evening meals were absolutely wonderful, with a change of... more

I stayed at this hotel with a friend for one night. I picked the hotel for the location. It is near to the Botanical Gardens where our christmas party was. Check in was easy, the staff are helpfull. The room was lovely, a little dark when getting ready for a night out as there are only table lamps in the... more

Fab location, secure parking, my room was comforatable and spotless. Good buzz about the place dinner menu rather limited, however what I had was well prepared. Breakfast was ok, I think I got in after the first rush as the cold buffet was rather depleted, staff replenished it though. I am a regular business traveller to the west mids and... more

After being booked in a cookie cutter chain hotel I just walked up to the Plough and Harrow and was given a very good rate. Great old character in the 300yr old part of the building (lobby and dining room). Rooms are in an unfortunate 70;s addtion, the floor I was on has been refurbished and had a brand new... more

Thank you for you comments, it was pleasing to read a review that was honest but also gave the hotel recognition for the excellent service and comfortable surroundings that are offered to guests.

They say an experience is either good or bad, this was certainly the latter. The public bar, supposedly open to residents seemed to permanently have it's shutters down, to get a drink you had to search for a member of staff to get behind the shutters, god forbid you wanted to pay by cash after 10:30pm, you were told this... more

Sorry to read your comments, i do feel that some of the comments do not give a true picture of the hotel. With regards to the painting as stated we have been decorating and some jobs are unfinished before the weekend. The picture of the chandalier can be explained if asked due to the size of the light fittings they...

I stayed here alone on business and on arrival thought the hotel looked derelict as there weren't many lights on but on walking into reception was pleasantly surprised. This is where the pleasantness ended. I was allocated a room and given directions. It was up stairs, down stairs, along dirty corridors, through large hallways and through tiny doors not big... more
