When we arrived at the hotel we were told that we had been allocated a different room to the one we had originally booked, smaller and £10 cheaper. The room was small, basic but clean. Later that evening we had to go to reception to ask if we could change rooms as there was an kitchen extractor fan just outside... more

Oh no, we took one look at the tiny, shabby room from which we could hear every word from the room across the hall and turned tail and ran. The only redeeming feature was that nice chap on reception who refunded our money. Hideous. more

If you can call The Great Barr Hotel a hotel, you have not been to a hotel ! 1) Staff.....Boarding on or were just damn rude. Except Sue, who was the waitress at breakfast. 2) Food....If that grade of food was from a chef, Gordon Ramsey would have a field day. Ask for a medium rare steak...get a chargrilled McDonalds... more

Just spent a Saturday night at this hotel. The room was large and clean though a little tired. We stayed in the basement or lower ground floor and had a really quiet nights sleep. The room was non smoking but still smelled of smoke as people had been smoking out of the window (yuck) the staff were excellent and really... more

Booked in for 14th Feb 2009. Reception area not too bad and receptionist friendly. Room was a big disappointment however, reminded me more of a room you would get in a basic B&B. Paintwork chipped, furniture tatty. Bed up against wall. Bathroom very shabby and bath had several silver fish in it. Breakfast next morning was average. Hot food was... more

The reception staff were ok, but the room was very small, shabby and sparse. I booked a single room and had a single bed (which is unusual from previous experience). Only 2 teabags, the cold water tap didn't work properly, a big gap under the door let in all noise and light from the corridor. Breakfast was adequate I found... more

The hotel hosted a Family 40th birthday bash on the 12th in a private room approx 22 adults and 10 children.. The evening was a success and this was mainly due to the Hotel staff on the night , in particular Kamal, all of the staff were pleasant, efficient, patient and couldnt do enough for us despite hosting a tribute... more

Staff at reception helpfull. Found way though maze of corridors to my room. Would question if this hotel would meet modern fire regulations. Room dirty. Pubic hair in bath and sink! Double bed against wall. Only two tea bags in welcome tray. Bar atmosphere non-existent. Food in resturant diabolical along with service. Breakfast not bad and service much improved. Would... more
