I can easily describe the lovely gardens and buildings, the relaxing garden room and clean and comfortable bedrooms, what is harder to put into words is the essence, the atmosphere of Woodbrooke- warm, replenishing, healing, kind, uplifting..still haven't found the perfect word..

On a Quaker course but able to bring husband a 12yr old thanks to lovely, big family room. Always a wonderful Friendly welcome. The place lives and breathes simple Quaker welcome. Friends in Residence always available to help - even lovely during 4am fire alarm! Food tasty and lots of it. Good for veggie husband and boy AND gluten free... More

I have spent many weekends on courses at this Quaker Study Centre, but my first stay as a bed and breakfast guest reminded me of what a wonderful sanctuary Birmingham has, fifteen minutes from the city centre. The gardens, with boating lake and labyrinth, are sublime. The food is simple and consistently delicious. Drinks and newspapers are available in the... More

I was here for the second week of a fortnight's intensive training. Woodbrooke has such spacious and peaceful surroundings even though it's just off the main southbound busy Bristol Road in Birmingham. Excellent food and library, helpful and friendly staff, good Quaker worship and silence.

I went to Woodbrooke, as I have done before, to relax and reflect in a peaceful atmosphere - a sort of retreat before doing a difficult job. It was all I expected: good but not flashy food; a comfortable room (the en suite a bit of a tight fit!); gardens in which to wander and a library open at all... More

This is unique place. It is comfortable in the important ways, but not showy. So the beds and food are great, the garden and common room beautiful, and there are many facilities available free if you want them (TV, wonderful library, computers, newspapers...) Quakers value everyone good attention is paid to special diets, the needs of disabled people etc. Mealtimes... More

Thank... More

For a Quaker this is a perfect place to stay in a spiritual and botanical haven. The gardens were such a blessing to wander through in the spring, and the food was excellent, with vegetarian and vegan as well as gluten free options.

Woodbrooke is a study centre in one of the old buildings built for the Cadburys. The rooms are comfortable, but not fancy. You can have a TV - if you ask for one in your room. The food is beautifully prepared. Lots of options for breakfast. If you want an evening meal you should book in the morning. There's one... More

If you have to find accommodation in Birmingham and want somewhere quiet and peaceful with a great buffet breakfast, Woodbrooke is ideal. The rooms are simple, some with en-suite, very clean and mine overlooked the beautiful garden with lake. There is also a lovely garden room where you can read, and a patio area with tables and chairs. It's best... More
