Just returned from five days at the Keelmans / Big Lamp Brewery Newburn, what a great venue. We were a group of twelve golfers playing golf at various course's and using Keelmans Lodge as our main base, what a great place to stay, the rooms have all that you need, very clean, bath/shower, comfortable beds, flat screen TV, and Tea... First time staying here , had 4 nights dinner bed n breakfast , 12 of us stayed in the 6 rooms of the lodge ,they are very clean and spacious. The food was excellent and of a plenty . The service was first class with all members very polite and very helpful. For the real ale drinkers amongst us there... More

We stayed here while doing the Hadrian's Wall Walk. The rooms are in a building set a few yards away from the pub to which it belongs. They are basic but perfectly functional and there was a bathtub which is what matters most to walkers! The riverbank location is lovely. The pub served good solid food, and they do large... More

We stayed here on our second night of our Hadrian's Wall Walk Challenge. Rooms were away from the main lodge but were large, clean and fairly comfortable although a little dated. It also housed a bath which was very welcome after an 11 mile walk that day to soak our weary joints. Beds were pretty comfortable and plenty of room... More

I stayed here during the week whilst working in the area. Rooms are comfortable and quiet and a short distance away is a walk along the Tyne. Plenty of tea, coffee, biscuits and toiletries. Only minor gripes were small TV and kettle not emptied after room servicing. Microbrewery beer is excellent and cheap and restaurant service and food were good.... More

This was a family pub.Now it has been taken over by 'the locals' called The Furniture even by some of the restaurant staff. Typical when the management do not maintain their presence and control over the regular drinkers. Bad language and having to walk through a haze of cigarette smoke at the door is bad enough.Talk about Passive Smoking. These... More

Excellent place on edge of country park about 10 mins from Newcastle city centre. Room was comfortable and very spacious. As ever, the beer was perfect (brewery on site - Big Lamp). Only flaw to prevent a 5-star - B&B customers are charged £7.95 for breakfast, however non-stayers can get this for £5.55. Still recommend it highly.

Walking westward from Wallsend this was our first stop for the night. And we would pick it again: lovely place, good room, great surroundings, very friendly staff,.good value for money. Only the kitchen is extremely English: generous in chips, meat, sweets and calories, but not so in vegetables, with few vegy options. If only they could add some vegy salands... More

This is an excellent place to stop and rest your weary feet if you are walking Hadrian's Wall Path. The shower refreshes parts that other showers can't reach and the old world buildings have a real charm. Rooms are clean and comfortable and the food is good. Would highly recomend

These folks bend over backwards to please you and get what you want. I'm very particular about what I eat - and they made arrangements to suit my needs. The place was crowded - lots of people really enjoy the place - dogs are most welcome and there's a free Wi-Fi. The room was VERY nice - such small touches... More
