Relatively cheap, but nice lodges around the large car park. There is a brewery on site so real ale lovers are in heaven. One quirk, you cannot walk up to the bar to order a drink, you have to queue, in busy times for up to 15 minutes. Food is not fantastic, but perfectly ok. more

Great location. Great accommodation. Great welcome. We had come up for the England vs Australia cricket match at nearby Chester le Street. As a beer lover I was entranced by the 6 (at least) real ales on offer but found the catering to be a little stodgy. Dinner scored 7 out of 10 but breakfast was not so good with... more

I stayed in the Salmon Cottage building, which is a self-contained block across the car park from the pub. Despite the 'Cottage' tag, it's a new build and isn't the place to be for old world charm - another review has described it as a 'motel' and I think that's quite a good description. However, the bedroom was great. Spacious,... more

We stayed at Keelman's Lodge on the first night of our walk along Hadrian's Way. You really can't beat the location of this place--It's a stone's throw from the trail. We ate in the pub as well and were pleased with the food. We didn't eat breakfast there as it was another 7 pounds or so (not included in the... more

I spent a pleasant weekend at The Keelman Lodge. The accommodation was comfortable and the staff were friendly and very helpful. The location is great for exploring the countryside and is within easy reach of Newcastle city centre. We enjoyed the food, which was very reasonably priced, and the pub serves its own beer which is brewed on site. more

I was making a trip up to Newcastle to see a football match in the city. Two friends and I were meeting and I found the Keelman online. While the lodge is a few minutes outside of the city, it is the perfect place as a launch point to visit the region. The Keelman's Lodge was absolutely perfect in every... more

This really is a great place. The accommodation was excellent. There is a new block of rooms less than a year old which are very spacious, clean and comfy. The price was excellent as well. The adjoining pub is superb, beer is brewed on site as well and was very good. Food was good and the service from staff was... more

Spent 2 nights at the Keelman. We had a family room, double bed and two singles. The room was upto a good standard of housekeeping, with a large clean bathroom. Being Camra (Campaign for real ale) members this was a must for us! on entering the bar we where greated by warm smiles and open-ness from both the staff and... more

I stay at the Keelman whenever I am back in the UK, the rooms are cosy and warm in cold weather and the location is perfect for a walk along the banks of the Tyne. The Pub is perfect for meals, lovely grub and a breakfast that is old fashioned in its content and quantity, great! Excellent choice of ales... more
