Just returned from spending two nights here. We had a twin room - queen size bed each which is unusual as you tend to only get singles. Very comfortable and spacious room although we had to fight a bit with the windows and one of them didn't close completely. This isn't a problem at this time of year as it... more

Had a 5 night business trip to Newcastle in May and chose this hotel out of a selection available to me, because of the brand name and it's convenient situation. Oh boy, did I get it wrong! First off, either there was no concierge, or he was wearing a cloak of invisibility. Room 416 on the left side of the... more

Now known as the County Thistle, this hotel is situated right across the road from Newcastle Main Station and 5 mins walk from the City Centre. We were at the hotel for two nights and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The rooms we had were a little small but, apart from that, the hotel was very good with smart decor etc. Also... more

I spent 2 nights at the Thistle in Newcastle, in a single room. I changed rooms after the first night because the first room was, quite frankly, unacceptable. It did not meet even the bare minimum of what I would except from the most budget of hotels (and I wasn't expecting the Four Seasons: I stay at a lot of... more

My second stay at this hotel, the staff are so helpful & friendly from receptionist, waiters and the housekeepers. Although very busy the hotel staff made a difference to my stay. The bed was very comfortable & the bedroom & bathroom very clean. The location is great so close to the train station so not far with my heavy case,... more

I have stayed at the Thistle and it was sufficient. Nothing fancy, it was just a good place to sleep and have a nice shower. I shared my room with a friend and it was just big enough to have enough space to indulge your personal space. The location was very good, near shopping areas, casino's and football-stadium. Also the... more

Across the road from train/metro station which is very handy. Communal areas have been refurbished recently and are in good condition. Rooms however are a bit dated and in need of makeover. They are clean enough (except for my window ledge) so no real complaints there. Small, pokey rooms that are badly laid out e.g. difficult to watch TV from... more

Stayed their a couple of times on business. Some single rooms have sloping ceilings and beds are in a nook in the bedroom - not for the claustrophobic or tall. Across the road from both rail and metro station and close to shops. I couldn't find any grocery shops (Tesco's, Netto, Co-op etc) for cheap food but there are takeaways... more

I went to Thistle Newcastle on a 3 day work trip last November. First impressions of the hotel were good. Nice big reception. Stairs up to the room or 3 big lifts. I took the stairs as i'm not the biggest fan of lifts. The corridors are a bit confusing, but I found my room eventually. I went into the... more

This Hotel is ideally situated if your travelling on the train as its directly opposite the central station. Ive driven this time and it does have a private carpark but its not very big and they charge £10 a night which is actually £4 less than the station carpark opposite. The Positives: Its a good central location, the food is... more
