Stayed at County Hotel before, the staff are very helpful, rooms comfortable & big enough for a city centre hotel. Great location just across from railway station, close to shops & bars, what more could you ask for! Rooms spotless & I think I had a newly decorated room so everything was great. Be back again next time I am... more

Do not stay here on a Friday or Saturday night if you intend to sleep. I recently spent a Friday night at the County Hotel by Thistle after a trip to Newcastle had to be extended at short notice, and I was kept awake from about 2.30 am to 5.00 am by a group of drunken residents repeatedly shouting, slamming... more

Many thanks for sharing your feedback. I am pleased that some aspects of your stay with us were pleasant and also disappointed to hear of the problems you had with noise in the hotel but was glad to read that the staff were able to assist. We take guest feedback very seriously at our hotel and I will be sure...

I stayed for three nights last week and wasn't particularly looking forward to this hotel having read some earlier reviews. Unfortunately most were right. The first allocated room had wallpaper peeling off and huge damp stains on the walls. I changed this immediately and to be fair they were very good about it. Not sure they believed me about the... more

I stayed her for one night for business and found it very disappointing. Firstly, the room wasbland but clean and the toilet seat was broken. The windows in the room i had opened just enough to let the unbelievable amount of noise in from outside (which lasted all night!!) but not enough to allow for any vetalation in the room... more

Had a 5 night business trip to Newcastle in May and chose this hotel out of a selection available to me, because of the brand name and it's convenient situation. Oh boy, did I get it wrong! First off, either there was no concierge, or he was wearing a cloak of invisibility. Room 416 on the left side of the... more

I spent 2 nights at the Thistle in Newcastle, in a single room. I changed rooms after the first night because the first room was, quite frankly, unacceptable. It did not meet even the bare minimum of what I would except from the most budget of hotels (and I wasn't expecting the Four Seasons: I stay at a lot of... more

I have stayed at the Thistle and it was sufficient. Nothing fancy, it was just a good place to sleep and have a nice shower. I shared my room with a friend and it was just big enough to have enough space to indulge your personal space. The location was very good, near shopping areas, casino's and football-stadium. Also the... more

Across the road from train/metro station which is very handy. Communal areas have been refurbished recently and are in good condition. Rooms however are a bit dated and in need of makeover. They are clean enough (except for my window ledge) so no real complaints there. Small, pokey rooms that are badly laid out e.g. difficult to watch TV from... more

Stayed their a couple of times on business. Some single rooms have sloping ceilings and beds are in a nook in the bedroom - not for the claustrophobic or tall. Across the road from both rail and metro station and close to shops. I couldn't find any grocery shops (Tesco's, Netto, Co-op etc) for cheap food but there are takeaways... more
