Booked this hotel a couple of weeks ago during Newcastle University graduation week. We hadn't stayed at a Malmaison previously and with the Taste of Summer offer at £99 per night which included our room, 2 x £19.95 contribution to dinner and a £17.50 bottle of wine, this seemed too good an opportunity to miss - so we booked two... Well ! To sum it up; "Over promised and Under delivered" Lots were "Mal" about it I am afraid. Positives:- Great looking building. The location is great as is the outlook. Our Luxury room facing the bridge and river was a very good size, even if the bathroom took a lump out of the middle. The buffet breakfast had a... More

Stayed in The Mal in Newcastle for work. The hotel is in a converted warehouse and my room was huge and very well appointed with views to river and city. The breakfast as always in Mals was very good and the service was of a high standard. Probably not the poshest hotel in Newcastle but was very nice choice and... More

Started having to travel to Newcastle for business and for my first trip decided to stay at the Malmaison based on previous stays at the Birmingham one, and it's good location on the Quayside. Overall the hotel style is nice - a very "dark" interior but that's the Malmaison style. Check-in was painless and the receptionist was very helpful when... More

We have stayed here a few times and usually upgrade to a river view, we did the bubbles and breakfast package and had a lovely stay, the room was overlooking the millennium bridge and when we came back late in the evening I sat and watched the colours on the bridge changing, listening to Mark Knopfler, and remembering days long... We've stayed at this hotel a few times and it's always been ok the location is fabulous. This time we stayed on an offer and upgraded to the suite on the top floor. The only quibble I would have with the room was it smelt musty which I think was the aircon. Other than that the room was well appointed... More

Stayed here again for the fourth time. Had a huge double room (317) and it was very quiet and comfortable. Mini bar was well stocked. They now provide bars of chocolate from the Grown Up chocolate company - these are not in the mini bar but are still charged at £3.50 each. They were delicious. We had a super king... More

This place is comfortable and the staff are great but the decor is dire. Think black ash furniture that most people binned in the 1990s, dark purple corridors that most people painted over in the early 1980s and extremely low lighting (to the point of being inconvenient). With decent decoration this could be a good place to stay but till... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Fog on the Tyne? Let's hope not. Otherwise you'll miss the great view of the Tyne Bridge you get from our hotel in Newcastle city centre. But then, when you're staying at Malmaison Newcastle, it's the views on the inside that tell you your boat's come in. While you're right at the heart of Newcastle's great shops and exciting nightlife, the lure of MALBAR's legendary cocktails and the Mal Brasserie's classic dishes with a twist is pretty strong. And who wants to spend all night out on the town when one hotel in Newcastle has a whole floor with a shipbuilding theme and bathtubs you could sink a battleship in? It could only be the Newcastle Mal. ... more   less
