Dirty toilet, room not vacuumed, security on door not functioning, hotel front entrance VERY hard to find. Stain on coverlet. Had not been washed for sure. Good breakfast, but nervous because of lack of hygiene. On loud street if staying over the weekend. Good location, though. Bar was a place to by liquer, but not an actual bar. Parking NOT... more

If you stay here request a room away from the disco downstairs and not overlooking the train tracks. The quietest rooms overlook the carpark. This is a place you book so you can drink your brains out in downtown and avoind a drink driving charge. I stayed here Nov 9th and no heat in the room. No extra blankets. Freezing.... more

Curtains didn't meet or touch the window sill by about 4 feet!!!!!! Shower leaked and two tiles missing which were covered by a plastic board. Big bleach stain on the carpet, no TV remote control. Kick marks on the outside of the door and the bottom of the bed didn't match the rest of it. Asked for spare pillows and... more

I stayed in this hotel with my sister for one night. I had read the reviews before we went and had considered cancelling but thought it couldn't be that bad. Oh how wrong i was the room was OK apart from the mould on the bath and the old blankets on the bed you usually get duvets at hotels nowadays.But... more

My wife and I here stayed for one night as I was running the Great North Run the next day. We had a double room, although the bed was only a 3/4 size. The room itself was not too bad, although the bathroom needed some TLC - gaps in the tiles, mouldy shower curtain, and a light which you could... more

Location is the ONLY thing this place has going for itself. It was the least expensive place I could find near the quay in Newcastle, but I'm not sure I would do it again. The lift was broken, our room was on the third floor - that's four flights to walk up! We were there for three nights and someone... more

The graffiti-covered sign marking the entrance to the Surtees Hotel, visible from Dean Street, provides a string indication of the calibre of this establishment: it's the pits! The rooms are extremely basic, with very tired furnishings. Everything from the toilet to the ironing board is grim, but useable, just. On a positive note: the hotel is centrally located, with the... more

The hotel is much better than some of it's reviews. I was expecting the worse from some of the review from previous visitors. The reception and bar area are modern and welcoming. The rooms where basic but very clean and comfortable. We went in a party of 10 for a hen weekend and it was a mixed age group but... more
