We had three nights at the Royal Station Hotel, its a very old hotel and iin places it shows.. First room very small with TV on wall at the end of the bed - excellent placing for hitting yourself specially in the dark ... we rejected that (214) Next room offered seemed to be in the next county, up and... more

A splendid hotelof victorian charm and friendly atmosphere. Had a delux room. Room ok windows were old sash and did not open maybe lack of air was a problem in hot weather. But overall very good. I would stay there again. Really conveinient for the train station which is right next door. more

This hotel has a fantastic location very close to the station, so is ideal if you are traveling by train. Some of the decor is a little dated, but the bathroom was new and very clean. Complimentary drinks and biscuits were given in the fridge in the room which was great. The breakfast was really good, lots of choice. Staff... more

We arrived by train in the pouring rain so no need to to get wet as the hotel is connected to the station via the rear entrance. Staff were very pleasant and helpful . We arrived early and our room was not ready but were able to leave our luggage in storage ( not secure) and hit the shops for... more

Having read the various reviews on Trip Advisor I was wary of the parking situation. Pulled up outside and the "Clamper" guided us to a fab spot behind the hotel. Do not let the clamping put you off! Booked the breakfast online before, we paid £5 rather than the £8 on the day - Well worth it. Stayed in a... more

I booked this hotel recently after reading all the previous reviews on here and was not disappointed one bit. The booking was made after my partner had booked train tickets to Newcastle for a hen weekend that did not take place. Because of the late booking a lot of the cheaper hotels were fully booked for the time that we... more

Stayed at the Royal for 1 night. We arrived at about 9 in the morning and was told by a very ‘happy’ receptionist that we couldn’t check in until 2 but to try at 12 in case they are ready for us so we went off and came back at 12 and was greeted by another receptionist that really loved... more

On arrival reception staff friendly. But no one available to help with luggage. Lift to all floors that stop at fourth level. I was on the fifth. Single room clean and tidy. Staff brought towels a few seconds after I had entered room. I asked for an iron and ironing board which was brought but to my horror the iron... more

The hotel is located where the name suggests - and you can enter it directly from the platform - a little treat for those of us who like railway hotels. The main staircase is a magnificent victorian confection (with faded carpets). Public areas tend to the shabby. Rooms vary. Mine was a single on the top (5th) floor. It had... more
