A big hotel, didn't have time to explore it all. We stayed 2 nights in 1114 corner room quiet. Basic room but there was a notice to say they are upgrading them. Room service excellent , iron, lunch with icecream sundie to die for, and breakfast scamble eggs were the best I've ever had ... Staff helpful, Taxi firm they... More

Today I took my Nana for an afternoon tea at the Vermont Hotel for her 80th birthday. I found the hotel on line and thought the pictures looked beautiful and we wanted it to be a special treat. After my call to the hotel to book I was certain we had made the right choice. Staff (Tanya) was helpful and... More

Spent two nights to enjoy the local nightlife! Worth every penny! Staff were delightful, good size rooms, good bar. (Beers were pricey). We had food in the restaurant which was very good, recommend the steaks. Will be coming back in the future.

An excellent hotel with good facilities and fairly quiet location nestled behind the castle on the north bank of the River Tyne above the famous quayside. All the staff were totally professional, very friendly and approachable at all times and nothing was to much trouble for them. The rooms were light and airy and the bed very comfortable. I wouldn't... More

Very grand on entering, polite and helpful staff and hands down the best meal I have had in newcastle - been here 4 weeks and eat out 4 nights a week, so have plenty to compare it to. I was the only person in the restaurant for the whole hour that I was there. (7-8pm on a Monday) The rooms... More

Went to Newcastle for only one night but found the hotel to be extremely comfortable with very good facilities. The staff were very professional and the breakfast was of a high standard. It is also very close to the city centre but not close enough to be noisy. I would recommend it to anyone staying in Newcastle

I've never stayed in the hotel as I live quite locally so can't comment on that part of the business, but my fiancée took me to the restaurant there for my birthday on 11th July and I can honestly say I was very impressed by both the food and the service. We got the wine & dine deal at £59... More

Very disappointed with our recent stay here. There is NO wheelchair access to the hotel - a fact which is not mentioned on the website. My mother was humiliated by gates having to be unpadlocked on several occasions, having to be taken through back kitchens and worst of all on Friday evening we ended up in a row with the... More

Hotel could have aso much going for it but let down by very poor management. I booked this hotel several months ago but still found myself in the middle of a building site being woken at 8.10am by the sound of hammering then to be confronted by a building site outside of our door as renovations were takin g place... I would not consider The Vermont Hotel as a suitable destination for myself, nor recommend it to anyone else in the future. The staff were extremely rude and unwilling to provide any assistance to resolve the matters below. They were stubborn, unapologetic and unkind towards me. First, my room took 3 hours to become available. That was not pleasant after... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Few hotels can boast a more enviable city centre postcode than the Vermont Hotel, for this imposing structure is located in the heart of the City of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, not only next to the Castle Keep and opposite the historic Moot Hall, but also just two minutes from Newcastle's Central Station. Combining old character in the form of 1930s grandeur with contemporary elegance and four-star luxury, the landmark building is your base from which to discover the many bars, shops and attractions of the town centre and wider area. Look outside your window and you might see such sights as the River Tyne, Millennium Bridge or stunning cathedral, and it's not the only mark of the sheer inspiration of the Vermont Hotel experience. That's because the reasons for the hotel's reputation become clear with a stay in any one of its sophisticated bedrooms, which are finished in soft relaxing colours while also coming with a wealth of facilities for your pleasure and comfort, including - among others - private en-suite bathrooms, a mini bar and free Internet access. ... more   less
