Perfect location free parking too. Hotel is dated needs modernising and painting. Wanted £60 deposit off each couple (5 couples) for 2 nights. Bar is expensive. Dusty is rooms. Bathroom is dark. Would stop here again because of location. 4 star as location cant be beaten.

The Hotel is a bit worse for wear ..But cant complain all that much. Our room was a bit groggy on entering, stale smell of smoke and bed seemed to sink when I got on it. Its like a haunted house from entering from the main road, long winding corridors to finally get to the reception area. Although the women... More

So we got stranded in Newcastle by the storms in Scotland, and as we had a puppy with us our hotel options were rather limited... Newgate fitted the bill! Now all the things that have been said before ring true, strange entrance through disused public areas and past locked doors to amazing treasures... Receptionist Katie was lovely, not only allowed... Wanted to be in the city centre and wanted parking,This hotel doesn't look too bad on the web site. It is appalling well past its sell by date. Staff were pleasant and it had parking but that's about it, It is mouldy dirty and basically falling apart. Did not have breakfast couldn't face that. This is at best hostel accommodation... More

My friend and I stayed Friday & Saturday night. We were slightly worried after reading the reviews here (to say the least), however, pleasantly surprised by every aspect. Staff were friendly and helpful, lift buttons were not rocket science, room was basic but clean, comfortable and warm, hot water and powerful shower, with tea and coffee facilities. There was a... The room was filthy, the bathtub was grimy and rusty, the toilet seat was cracked the tiles were dirty, didn't want to put things down and didn't use the shower! The wallpaper was hanging off the wall, the windows were single glazed and you could hear everything (as well as being dirty) the tv was old (box tv that was... More

Just back from a one night stay. Extremely disappointed with the condition of the room. Windows were disgusting, wallpaper coming off the wall, mould on bathroom ceiling and on the tiles. Bedroom picture on website is not accurate. To get to reception you have 2 flights of stairs to climb, then it's a bit of a trek to reception. If... More

I guess some of the previous reviewers have been unlucky with their rooms as I had no problem at all. There was certainly no mould or dust in mine. Perfectly clean and serviceable. The building is from the '70s, but there is not much you can do about that. The public areas were hoovered. The staff were lovely and helpful.

Well previous reviews say it all, but I would just like to add a few words. I was appalled at the state of this hotel. It was old, dirty, rundown and should not even be open to the public in that state.I could not believe the prices they were charging too for such a rundown hotel. I am amazed that... More

Absolute filth! Total disgrace. Nothing was clean. If I'd have had a choice I would have left as soon as I checked in. Mould everywhere. Thick of dust just generally dirty. Never write review cause I'm quite easygoing and easy pleased but NEVER again!
