Having looked at the website I was expecting a really nice, modern, nicely decorated modern hotel but was a bit disappointed. It wasn't awful - just not quite what I had expected. Positives - staff were friendly and chatty on reception and the room I had in the eaves was HUGE with loads of sockets which was useful for recharging... more

We booked in late evening - we were given a disabled room but were not informed of this on arrival. The bathroom had no bath, it was purely a wet room for wheelchair users primarily. The tern wet room was indeed wet - sitting on the toilet with your feet in an inch of water! It was impossible to use... more

I don't know how this hotel got so many bad reviews. We stayed at this hotel for 3 days in Apr 09, and found it just fine. The room we had was tiny, and the shower is compact, but our bed was comfortable, sheets and towels were changed daily. Fixtures fine, everything worked. Staff were friendly, breakfast was good. Took... more

We stayed in the Mandolay on the 5th September after seeing their website and mistakenly believing we were staying in a new hotel. The website said that it was opening on the 4th September - so as you can imagine we thought we were staying in a luxury boutique hotel that was brand new. As we walked in, the bar/restaurant... more

We stayed in a triple room in the new block out the back of the hotel. The room was a reasonable size, clean and tidy. The bistro was lovely, serving yummy food for excellent value. Bar was nice too, and staff were very friendly. The downsides was that the bathroom was, well, a bit functional and shabby, and the room... more

I stayed here last month with my husband. I can totally say this is the worst hotel I have ever been to. The rooms are small, dirty and need updating and the staff were badly rude to me. I am a pity that a nice city like Guildford has a hotel like this. more

I stayed here on business, and dreaded it because of the poor reviews! What a pleasant surprise! I found the hotel generally clean and tidy, the room was a bit dated but clean and pleasant. The bar and restaurant areas have clearly been updated. The staff were helpful and polite. Breakfast was good quality if a bit expensive. Parking on... more

The room was OK but very small, however the noise was totally unacceptable. There was a loading bay right next to the window, with constant loading and shouting ALL night. No alternate room was offered even after several complaints, and both the night and morning reception staff were dishonest and unreliable. My complaint to the management the next day was... more

I stayed here one night whilst on a training course. Considering the £130 a night cost of a room, it just didn't seem all that good. My room had a sliding wall/ceiling. Finding the room was a real pain as you need to use a network of different stair cases to get to different parts of the hotel. Nothing overly... more

This has to be one of the worst hotels I have had to stay in. I booked for a week but I cancelled the rest of the reservation within 5 minutes of checking in, it is way over priced and I would expect to pay far less for what you get. The room was a box with out the space... more
