We stayed there for one night when the place was still a MacDonald hotel. The place is quite easy to find as it sits by the Dorking high street, which isn't the biggest of market towns. There is ample parking too, which is also a bonus. Checking-in was painless and staff were pleasant and polite. Our room was at the... more

My first experience on arriving was an attempt to charge me an extra £20 for a smoking room - as a cynical exercise of profiteering on the back of the smoking ban this takes some beating. I then had dinner: the service was rude to say the least, the bread was stale, the fried brie was lukewarm (the chef did... more

Stayed here for one night last week and was moved to write an official letter of complaint to the Head Office, this included the following: * Receptionist directed me to the wrong floor * Windows were dirty, mouldy and rusty * Room was dusty * TV poor, no volume on two channels * Breakfast service slow, when they finally noticed... more

front desk staff said that they didn't have my confirmed reservation for next day check-in. I had to open up my laptop, connect to T-Mobile ($$$) to prove to them that I had a guaranteed reservation. The room I got was small (even by Elizabethon era standards). It had cobwebs in the corners of the bedroom and bathroom. There was... more

We stayed at the White Horse for two nights. The setting was wonderful. It is on the High Street of Dorking , which is a lovely little town. The hotel staff were okay, but not as helpful as we are used to. Food was fine, restaurant was nice, old building with that charm. The front sitting room was charming, however... more

We stayed at the White Horse for one night in June. We used the hotel as a base to go to a wedding in Leatherhead. The hotel was once part of the MacDonald Group and now forms part of the Mercure chain. We booked this hotel over the net and didnt really do any research. It was all a bit... more

I telephoned the hotel directly the day before arrival having booked through laterooms 3 weeks earlier, they did not have the booking because their email system had been down. Not a good start. Staff friendly but place is shabby. Clean but in need of updating. Shower spewed everywhere other than straight down which is why the bathroom decor was in... more

My wife took me back here for my birthday. We had and excellent stay, this time in the 'stable block' (the Olivier Suite). It's been taken over by ther Mercure group since my last stay and I think it's a change for the better. more

I dont know where to start - constant problems!! "Loosing" our registration when I called to confirm before arrival and then again when we arrived, trying to overcharge us both on check in, and check out (the receptionist threatened not to let us leave until another £40 had been paid!) and being extremely rude when we tried (very reasonably!) to... more

A lovely old coaching inn with comfortable rooms. Evening Menu is however too complicated and the food is stodgy and dry and in some cases undercooked. By sticking to their simplistic lunch menu they could do much better. more
