The Hotel. We had seen this hotel on previous trips to Long Melford and decided to stay. Overall the hotel is nice, we paid the same price, if not a little more than we did at the Captains club in Christchurch, we were spoilt there so the Black Lion was a little bit of a dissapointment. The staff were very... more

We recently stayed at the Black Lion for a night and had a lovely time there. Our room, Yquem, was a large spacious red room overlooking the village green. No problems with traffic noise despite facing some crossroads. The room certainly had character - 4 poster bed, morrocan lamps, large wooden wardrobe, plush green chaise lounge, etc. TV was modern... more

We love Long Melford, a lovely old village in the depths of the Suffolk countryside. But we had never particularly noticed the 15th century Black Lion Hotel - which overlooks the magnificent green, and is tucked in beside the church at the top of the village. We first ate there just before Christmas - a Saturday luncheon with friends on... more

Just came for dinner, but think we would stay next time - had a great table next to real fire in the atmospheric bar eating area. Local competent staff and the food whilst not amazing was tasty and good value. Long Melford is v. attractive with good shops and places to eat - Scutchers is worth trying. more

We stayed in this hotel for two nights in March 2008 on a dinner bed and breakfast package. The hotel is quite old but our room had a very pleasant outlook over the local park. The room was quite large, clean and very comfortable and fitted out nicely to coincide with the hotel's theme. The food at breakfast and dinner... more

Excellent food, with a real attention to service. We stayed while they were also catering for a wedding but at no stage were we neglected. At every turn the staff were attentive, cheerful, and helpfull. The room, Yquem, was more bordello than 17th century coaching inn, but all the more memorable for it. A recommendation if you are looing for... more

We arrived by bicycle - rather tired - and were immediately made welcome with a cup of tea and a safe place to store bikes. We stayed in the Yquem room which was absolutely beautiful (but a bit hot - must be all that excercise). Towels a bit nylony - but really could not fault anything else. We had booked... more

The room was nice, and £165. It didn't have a mini bar and the TV was only tuned to about 2 and a half channels. Dinner was £100 for 2 courses and wine. We wanted to sit in the restaurant but were forced by staff to sit in the pub dining area as the restaurant was empty. We were rushed... more

We stayed for one night in August 2007. We have stayed at the hotel before, under previous management, and know Long Melford well - we only live 10 miles away. We stayed in the Yquem room - which is lovely and has a four-poster bed. Although the hotel setting is almost perfect for an English country inn, we were a... more
