We stayed here for two nights Friday to Sunday at the end of July. We were booked into a classic double room. On arrival the staff were friendly and welcoming, we were shown up to our room ('Preston Room') which appeared a little small at first but had everything we needed. The bathroom was lovely, with a big original beam... More

We stayed here for a long weekend, Fri to Sun mid July. On our arrival, we were told that we had been upgraded to a suite, which was a very nice surprise. The room was lovely. The hotel has a long history, and even the new extensions look authentic. Nooks and crannies everywhere! The food and service where second to... More

Booked at the last minute and just a standard double- the last one available. Get this. Four poster bead and sofa and easy chairs in the room- possibly the best "last standard room" I have stayed in. All the rooms are very individual and this is a lovely venue for a special weekend away. Apart from a lovely old historic... More

I came here for afternoon tea with 11 members of family & friends to celebrate my upcoming wedding. We were sat in the lounge which was lovely, cozy and comfortable. All types of tea/coffee was catered for, even my mums choice of peppermint. One of the party was gluten free and that was catered for even though we hadn't previously... More

Without doubt a very nice hotel.Staff are excellant. our room (number 1) is to be avoided. Not surprising that it was the last one available. Avoid this room if possible. It was VERY hot on a mild weather day, and the fan provided was needed all night. Opening the window was ineffective and opened onto a street which gives security... More

Lovely lovely place. We knew it from a tea 30+ years ago, but had never stayed. Arrived in the rain today, but a very warm welcome, and a great room (21), followed by a long walk around the lanes, a hot bath, feet up watching tv, then dinner in the splendid dining room. The hotel is just great. To dinner.... More

We had a lovely lunch in the Gallery restaurant. All food was tasty and fresh. Well presented and served hot. There was a good selection on the menu. The only reason I did not score 5 out of 5 was as there were 4 of us two were served at a time with a noticeable gap between the other two... More

We stayed at the hotel to celebrate the wedding anniversary of friends. Whilst we knew Lavenham and the Swan Hotel we had never stayed there, what a wonderful experience. A very friendly welcome, a good sized room, tastefully decorated and well appointed. The food, both the snacks and the main menu, all of excellent quality and so well presented. The... More

We have visited or stayed at the Swan over the years so instead of just driving on we were obliged to look in to make sure that standards are being maintained. We were not at all disappointed. Warm welcome; excellent lunch in the sunny garden and a solid feeling that this special place is in capable hands. Lovely atmosphere. We'll... More

We only stayed for two nights on this occasion but it remains as we remember it: charming, peaceful and with high standards. There is a sense of occasion in the grand dining room, with appropriate service and pretty good food. We chose a 'feature' room which best illustrates the original Swan, with many wall & ceiling beams and quirky antique... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Nestling in the Suffolk countryside, between Bury St. Edmunds and Sudbury, is The Swan Hotel in Lavenham, perhaps one of England's most iconic hotels. The Swan dates back to the 15th century when it played a key role in Lavenham's wool trade. Today it is a quintessential English country hotel and restaurant, proud of its achievement of AA 4 Red star, two AA Rosettes & Visit England Large Hotel of the Year 2013. Ancient oak beams and inglenook fireplaces blend beautifully with rich furnishings and fabrics to create the perfect ambiance for rest and relaxation. The historic old bar boasts a wonderful collection of memorabilia, including a wall signed by British and American airmen stationed at Lavenham Airfield during World War II. The Swan is a wonderful place in which to celebrate a variety of special occasions, including romantic weddings, christenings and family get-togethers. It is also a unique venue for seminars, meetings and conferences, where 15th century inspiration combines with 21st Century innovation. ... more   less
